Post Questionnaire Results-The Three Wheels of Horror

How is this feedback going to benefit our production?

This feedback will help improve our production as we will gain insight into what our audience makes of the rough draft we have created for them to view. Their criticism and feedback will help us to get our film to reach its potential, and also meet expectations of our viewers.

We will use the feedback to understand what are the weaknesses and strengths of our film, accentuate the strengths, and improve the weaknesses.

Question 1. Are you male or female?

Male

Female

Page 4: Post questionnaire results

Results:• As this questionnaire was given out voluntarily, the results state

females volunteered to answer the questionnaire more than males, showing females may have a bigger interest in horror films.

• 65% were females• 35% were males• Showing gender bias, and thus illustrating that it goes against the

stereotype that males are more drawn to horror films than females, which is helpful as I am now more convinced my film will appeal to both males and females

• I initially did not want to include this question in the questionnaire as I did not think it would be vital information, however I found it would be helpful overall investigating which gender prefers horror films and observe a difference/similarity between them.

Question 2.Did the film opening fit into the horror genre?

Yes No

Page 6: Post questionnaire results

Results:

• According to our audience, the vast majority said that the film does fit into the horror genre codes and conventions, which therefore means the film has correctly mirrored aspects of a horror movie. 80% of participants said the film was recognised to be a horror film, and 20% of participants say it was not. This could mean we may have to intensify some scenes even further to make it crystal clear this is going to be a horror film for the 20% that disagreed.

Question 3.Were you able to recognise the protagonist and antagonist

clearly?

Yes No

Page 8: Post questionnaire results

Results:

• 95% of participants said they were clearly able to recognise the protagonist and antagonist. This is good because the storyline then becomes clear to the audience and they are more engaged because they understand each character. However, the 5% who could not recognise the protagonist and antagonist shows we need to make it even clearer who is who, by maybe also intensifying the scenes and making the protagonist appear more vulnerable.

Question 4.Did the opening sequence interest you to watch the rest of the

film?

Yes No

Page 10: Post questionnaire results

Results:

• 53% of participants said they would not be interested in watching the rest of the film, which is almost half of the people asked. 47% said they would. This means the opening sequence must include a more leading cliff-hanger, which will entice the audience to want to watch what happens next.

Question 5.Which do you think is the weakest element of the opening

sequence?

Sound

Camera

Characters

Storyline

Page 12: Post questionnaire results

Results:

• The chart shows that both sound and camera were 35% each, showing they are the weakest elements of the film. As we presented a first draft to the audience, we will improve the sound so that it syncs better with all movement and ensures the continuity rule is maintained, and the camera work should also be edited so that we can obtain clean, clear shots that are impactful in creating suspense.

Question 6.What do you make of the sound effects?

Good

Bad

Okay- could be better

Page 14: Post questionnaire results

Results:

• As we were not completely satisfied with the sound we presented to the audience, I decided to add a question to gain further insight into what the audience made of the sound effects. The majority say that they were okay, and could be better. The remaining 40% is equally distributed into the ‘good’ and ‘bad’ categories, which is why we need to work on the sound to sync it and make it as realistic as possible, and make it create the right atmosphere for a horror film- i.e.eerieness

Question 7.Does the title- The Three Wheels of Horror hint at the plot of the film

enough?

Good- it does hint at the plot

Bad- doesn't hint at the plot

Okay- hints a little at the plot

Page 16: Post questionnaire results

Results:

• 50% of participants said that the title hints a little at the plot, however this is a positive point as the title should not entirely give away the plot, it should create mystery to therefore make the audience more curious thus engaging them and allowing them to watch the film. Furthermore, it is a good way to market the film as the name is both unique and uses alliteration at the in the first two words, includes the word ‘horror’ and highlights the main prop which will be made the centre of everyone's attention- ‘Three wheels’

Conclusion

• As director, I plan to use this feedback, and work with the editor to reconstruct areas of improvement in the video, and address issues the audience had with technical areas such as sound and camera. It also helped us recognise our strengths and what we had correctly understood about the horror genre, and how we applied it to our film. All in all, conducting the questionnaire has been very helpful and will help us to go in the right direction with our film and hopefully make it a success with this feedback!
