Positive Attendance Using Banner
1. Go to the Mt. SAC portal at this address:
http://myportal.mtsac.edu/
Enter your username and password. Click on the Login button. (If you
do not know your username and password, you may need to claim your
user account. If you do not have that information (as a handout or a
link), contact the Mt. SAC Help Desk at ext. 4357.)

2. The main portal screen will look something like this:

3. Now click on the Faculty Services tab.
4. Go down the list. Click on Positive Attendance Form.

5. Select a Term and click on Submit.
6. Select a Class and click on Submit.

7. You are now on the Positive Attendance screen for your class.

8. To enter attendance hours...
A. Select the Week.
B. Enter the Weekly Hours and click on Submit.
C. Be sure to enter some number for each student, unless the
student has already dropped (orange color indicates this).
You can change the number of hours if there has been a
mistake until the end of class.
Each student must have at least 1 hour of attendance each
week to be accepted by the system.
You can’t update the Total Hours...only the weekly entry.
You need to enter the weekly hours each and every week.
Instructional aides are not allowed to enter the attendance
on Banner.

9. OPTIONAL BUTTONS: Click on any of these buttons as needed.
a. CLASS ROSTER – provides a list of students and a chart to fill
in. This chart can be printed out and used to mark
attendance throughout the week. A drop list appears below
the active class roster.
b. EXCEL DOWNLOAD -provides an Excel chart with the
information to save and use in Excel. Note that RE =
registered, DB = dropped.
c. VIEW ALL –gives a list of all your students and all their
attendance hours week by week. This is printable.

d. SWITCH CLASS – takes you back to SELECT a CLASS so you
don’t have to log out and log back in to go to a different
class in the same term.
e. CHANGE TERM – takes you back to SELECT a TERM.
10. Another Important Option under the Faculty Services tab
FINAL “GRADES” – Mark each student as Pass or No Pass at the
end of every term. (Note: ALL ABE, ESL, and vocational
instructors must do this. Some ABE – High School classes will
have letter grades. Some noncredit classes will be ungraded.
Check with your program manager or coordinator if you are
now clear about your class requirements.)

11. Remember to EXIT. Look for the Thank You message after
exiting to make sure it is completed.
