Quarterback Skill Requirements The following are quarterback skills that must be mastered in order to successfully compete on the pre-varsity (freshman/JV) and varsity levels. To play in this offense, all of the skills must be mastered and performed at a higher level than the other quarterbacks competing for the position. Obviously, the pre- varsity skills must be mastered before the varsity skills can be taught. Pre-Varsity Skills 1. Demonstrate a proper stance from under center. 2. Properly accept the snap from center from under center. 3. Execute proper hand offs and bootleg/play action fake fundamentals on pre-varsity run plays. 4. Execute a proper 3 step drop from under center. 5. Accurately execute sprint out pass techniques and throw the ball accurately on the run. 6. Demonstrate knowledge of all routes on each pre-varsity pass play. 7. Demonstrate knowledge of receiver alignments by formation. 8. Execute a proper flat defender read against all coverages. 9. Quarterback Skill Requirements

The following are quarterback skills that must be mastered in order to successfully compete on the pre-varsity (freshman/JV) and varsity levels. To play in this offense, all of the skills must be mastered and performed at a higher level than the other quarterbacks competing for the position. Obviously, the pre-varsity skills must be mastered before the varsity skills can be taught.

Pre-Varsity Skills

1. Demonstrate a proper stance from under center. 2. Properly accept the snap from center from under center. 3. Execute proper hand offs and bootleg/play action fake fundamentals

on pre-varsity run plays.4. Execute a proper 3 step drop from under center.5. Accurately execute sprint out pass techniques and throw the ball

Varsity Skills

1. Execute a 5 step drop from under center.2. Execute proper hand offs and bootleg/play action fake fundamentals

on all varsity run plays.3. Demonstrate knowledge of “rhythm, read, rush” progressions for each

3 and 5 step, bootleg, play action, and sprint out pass.4. Execute screen pass fundamentals and throw the ball accurately on

screens and flairs.5. Execute a hitch/fade check at the line of scrimmage. 6. Execute a run to run check at the line of scrimmage as required by

game plan.7. Execute a color change check at the line of scrimmage.

8. Accurately throw a hitch, slant, flat, fade, chain, corner, out, post, curl, wheel, flair, angle, drag, and dig from the required action: 3 step, 5 step, sprint out, boot leg, and play action.

9. Demonstrate knowledge of the differences of cover 2 and 3 and man coverage.

10. Demonstrate knowledge of scramble rules.

Running Back Skill Requirements

The following are running back skills that must be mastered to be successful on the pre-varsity (freshman/JV) and varsity levels. To play in this offense, all of the skill must be mastered and performed to a higher level than the other running backs competing for the position. Obviously, the pre-varsity skills must be mastered before the varsity skills can be taught.

Pre-Varsity Skills (Wingbacks and Fullbacks)

1. Demonstrate a proper stance.2. Demonstrate proper alignment in all formations. 3. Demonstrate the required motions and steps for each pre-varsity run

play and run to called area reading blocks on each play.4. Demonstrate proper hand off receiving mechanics and ball security

techniques.5. Demonstrate proper faking techniques.6. Demonstrate proper pass blocking assignment.7. Demonstrate proper sprint out pass blocking techniques.8. Demonstrate proper run blocking techniques: Fullbacks=banana kick

out, log. Wingbacks=arc, 5/8 double, down to backer

Varsity Skills (Tailbacks and Fullbacks)

1. Execute required pass routes (screen, flat, flair, angle, drag, banana and slant).

2. Execute required varsity run plays.3. Execute proper catching mechanics for pass routes.4. Execute pass protection as required by game plan.

5. Execute a hand off to a wide receiver for reverses.

Wide Receiver Skill Requirements

The following are wide receiver skills that must be mastered to be successful on the pre-varsity (freshman/JV) and varsity levels. To play in this offense, all of the skills must be mastered and performed at a higher level than the other receivers competing for the position. Obviously, the pre-varsity skills must be mastered before the varsity skills can be taught.

Pre-Varsity Skills

1. Demonstrate proper stance, take off, and field spacing alignment.2. Demonstrate knowledge of where to align by pre-varsity formation.3. Demonstrate proper ball catching mechanics.4. Demonstrate proper ball handling and ball security fundamentals.5. Demonstrate the required pre-varsity routes.6. Demonstrate a stalk block attacking the proper shoulder. 7. Demonstrate knowledge of where the running play is going.8. Demonstrate knowledge of how to take a hand off for reverses.

Varsity Skills

1. Execute a “crack” block.2. Demonstrate knowledge of where to align by varsity formation.3. Execute required varsity routes.

4. Execute a hitch /fade check at the line of scrimmage.5. Execute rip/swim/club release techniques.6. Demonstrate knowledge of the differences of cover 2 and 3 and man

coverage.7. Demonstrate knowledge of the #’s rule of clock management during

the 2 minute offense. 8. Demonstrate knowledge of scramble rules.

Offense Line Skill Requirements

The following are offensive line skills that must be mastered to be successful on the pre-varsity (freshman/JV) and varsity levels. To play in this offense, all of the skills must be mastered and performed at a higher level than the other offensive linemen competing for the position. Obviously, the pre-varsity skills must be mastered before the varsity skills can be taught.

Pre-Varsity Skills

1. Demonstrate proper stance, alignment, and vertical spacing.2. Demonstrate a “pick and point” (45 degree play side) step to the right

and left.3. Demonstrate an “over and up step” (lateral)to the right and left.4. Demonstrate a “down” (45 degree backside)step to the right and left.5. Demonstrate a “drop, cross, and run” (45 degree pull step) to the right

and left.6. Learn and properly execute required run blocks: down, pull-kick, pull-

wrap, Sweep, scoop-scramble (cut), and trap. 7. Learn and properly execute quick pass protection and turn back pass

protection.

8. Make “5” double calls to wing at appropriate times.

Varsity Skills

1. Execute a proper screen scheme.2. Execute play action and bootleg pass schemes.3. Execute slide pass blocking scheme (“30/40 River/Lake”). 4. Demonstrate a 1, 2, and 3 pass set.5. Execute run checks and color checks at the line of scrimmage.

Additional Tight End Skills

1. Demonstrate proper ball handling and ball security.2. Demonstrate proper pass catching mechanics.3. Execute the required tight end routes.4. Demonstrate where to align by formation.

5. Make “8” double call to wing at appropriate time.
