Processes driver license, title, registration, and voter registration applications.

Individual tasks related to the duty:

• Services customer’s requests in a courteous, helpful and professional manner.• Examines documents presented by customer.• Determines needs and asks for proper documents and legal papers to complete transaction.• Administers vision, road sign, and written tests to driver license applications.• Uses Branch Operating System to verify record information and process transactions.• Handles funds collected for branch transactions• Takes photos of driver and ID card applicants.• Receives funds and makes correct change.

Cash control.

• Follows all current cash control procedures.• Lists checks received.• Balances funds collected to cashier totals.

Original Driver License and original Michigan ID transactions, questionable identification or other questionable documentation, customer requests that are out of the normal scope of branch practices, situation where issues or solutions are unclear or when the customer is not satisfied with the answers provided, the supervisor will review the decision.

There are normally long periods of time spent standing at the counter. Manual dexterity is needed to operate calculator and do computer entry. Constant customer contact can be stressful. License plate boxes that are transported from storage to the work area weigh 25 pounds.

Ability to meet and deal effectively with the public. Ability to handle data entry on I.T. system. Employee must maintain a valid Michigan driver license as outlined in the Department of State’s Driver Policy.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

The branch office exists to deliver various services involving driver and vehicle licensure. The branch must establish the applicant’s eligibility for the requested service and ensure the necessary documents are in order. The branch office is also a major collection point of voter registrations. This position handles the routine processing of transactions.

This position functions as a front line service person for the processing of driver, vehicle, and voter registration applications. The employee must be able to determine customer needs and decide the appropriate action to be taken with routine transactions. The employee must be able to retrieve and enter information into the department’s Branch Operating System. This position must convey a courteous, helpful and professional image.

CDLKTEX - Pursuant to the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Enhancement (CMVSE) Act and the requirements established by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), this designation requires a nationwide criminal history background check prior to position appointment.  The employee, once appointed, is required to successfully complete a formal CDL training course, and knowledge test prior to certification as a CDL Knowledge Test Examiner.  Additionally, the incumbent will be required to pass refresher training and examination every four years.

SECCHDPOS - Position requires incumbent be a United States Citizen and pass a thorough background investigation to comply with Public Act 7 of 2008, Public Act 23 of 2008, and the Memorandum of Agreement between the State of Michigan and the Department of Homeland Security. Position also requires incumbent possess and maintain a valid driver's license, in accordance with agency's driving record standards.
