Position Description - Stepping Into- Summer 2016/17 Position Title International Climate Change and Energy Innovation Location Canberra Position Description The International Branch comprises three sections that lead the Department's engagement on international climate change issues, and includes: International Negotiations; International Partnerships; and Carbon Markets and Bilateral Engagement (CMBE). CMBE is responsible for policy on international carbon markets; managing engagement with other countries relating to climate change; monitoring other countries' emissions, targets and policies; and policy on the Australian National Registry of Emissions Units. Key Responsibilities The nature of work and specific responsibilities will depend on the student's interests and development needs, and may include: analysing supply and demand in international carbon markets, including scenario analysis; assisting with informing policy on international carbon markets, including engagement with other parts of the Department and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade; analysing other countries' climate policies, emissions, and progress towards meeting emission targets; drafting briefing for Ministerial and Senior Executive meetings with other countries. Position Description

The International Branch comprises three sections that lead the Department's engagement on international climate change issues, and includes:

International Negotiations; International Partnerships; and Carbon Markets and Bilateral Engagement (CMBE).

CMBE is responsible for policy on international carbon markets; managing engagement with other countries relating to climate change; monitoring other countries' emissions, targets and policies; and policy on the Australian National Registry of Emissions Units.

Key Responsibilities

The nature of work and specific responsibilities will depend on the student's interests and development needs, and may include:

analysing supply and demand in international carbon markets, including scenario analysis;

assisting with informing policy on international carbon markets, including engagement with other parts of the Department and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade;

analysing other countries' climate policies, emissions, and progress towards meeting emission targets;

drafting briefing for Ministerial and Senior Executive meetings with other countries.

We will consider opportunities for the intern to complete a major project depending on the timing of the placement.

Depending on the task the student may work independently with assistance from the supervisor, orcollaboratively with other team members. The supervisor will work with the student to identify and setdeadlines for each task, but the student will need to manage their time to ensure multiple tasks arecompleted.
