FOOD• The Portuguese consume a lot of dry cod (bacalhau

in Portuguese), for which there are hundreds of recipes. Two other popular fish recipes are grilledsardines and caldeirada, a potato-based stew thatcan be made from differents types of fish. A verypopular northern dish is the arroz de sarrabulho (rice stewed in pigs blood) or the arroz de cabidela (Rice and chickens meat stewed in chickens blood). He became the mostexpensive football player in historywhen he moved from Manchester United to Real Madrid in 2009 in a transfer worth €94 million.

• The music of Portugal includes many differentstyles and genres, as a result of its history. These can be divided into classical music, traditional/folk music and popular music.

• In popular music, there is a significant numberof popular genres. These include rock, withpopular acts including Xutos & Pontapés, TheGift (alternative rock), Fingertips (pop rock), Blasted Mechanism (experimental electro-rock). Also hip-hop, with bands such as Da Weasel, Boss AC and Sam the Kid.
