SSIS TEACHERS CELEBRATE WORLD TEACHER’S DAY THRU SFO

When you give to the community something that you cannot earnor buy back, such as time; that is the true spirit of giving. Thus, in the annualobservance of the World Teacher’s Day, the teachers of SSIS will allocateone whole day in a community outreach program, also known as Stonyhurstfor Others on October 3.

For several years, students were the ones initiating the SFO throughthe Student Council. Now, it is the teachers’ turn. To become an effectiverole model of compassion, teachers also need to immerse themselves in thecommunity. Only by finding out the people’s predicament and understand-ing the way they feel, the teachers will be able to help.

Note : The Outdoor Educational Program is an important part of the schoolcurriculum, and as such, participation is highly encouraged and countedin giving Perfect Attendance Award.

Since Intramurals 2013 coincides with the launching of the SSIS Knights, all the teams will have the same jersey designs, varying only in color. Thecost of the jersey is P550 for Pre-School and P600 for Grades 1-10. You maysettle your payments at the Accounting Office.

Children see and interact with people of different races or ethnic backgroundsevery day—around the neighborhood, while grocery shopping, at school, orin the media. Research shows that children as young as 3 identify genderand ethnic differences. You can help children develop cultural awareness, appreciate the cultural traditions of others, and build positive attitudes inmany ways, including the following:

Talk about differences among people in a positive way to help childrenappreciate the special qualities of all people.

Talk about the similarities among people to help your child understandthat all of us are more alike than different.

If you are with your child and hear someone say something ugly abouta person or a group of people, let your child know that this is unkindand hurts others.

If you hear your child say something that reflects prejudice, guide himor her to see that the words are hurtful and unacceptable.

Create opportunities for your child to meet and play with children ofdifferent races or ethnicities, socioeconomic backgrounds, familystructures, etc.

Help children understand that we are not all the same and we shouldalways show respect for our differences.
