Monday, March 28, 2022 Today we will travel to picturesque Lamego, home to one of the most important pilgrimage sites in all of Portugal, where you’ll go to the Nossa Senhora dos Remédios (Sanctuary of Our Lady of Remedies). The shrine features a staircase of nearly 700 steps, beautifully decorated with white and blue tiles, which the more active adventurer will want to climb on a guided hike. Concluding both tours, you will have the opportunity to sample local traditional specialties, such as bôlas de Lamego, bread filled with smoked ham; presunto, a type of dry-cured ham; and Espumante, a Portuguese sparkling wine. You’ll then go to the formal Episcopal Palace Museum. Later in the day, savor the flavors of Portugal’s renowned fortified wine, vinho do porto, made exclusively in the Douro Valley. Head to a local quinta for your authentic Port-wine tasting experience and enjoy the sweet nectar of this fascinating region. (B,L,D)

Wednesday, March 30, 2022 This morning we’ll visit Castelo Rodrigo, a small fortified village perched high on a hilltop with centuries-old walls, steep narrow streets, and fantastic views. You can also opt to hike up to the village should you wish a more active exploration. We’ll stop in sleepy little Pochino before reboarding our ship to enjoy the vistas as we cruise to Pinhão. This evening we’ll dine at Quinta da Avessada, a 100-year-old winery, where we’ll enjoying an authentic, traditional dining experience—complete with entertainment. Quinta da Avessada is also a fascinating interactive museum commemorating the history and culture of wine in the Alto Douro region, so you’ll have fun discovering all the various stages of wine production as well as doing plenty of tasting. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

ACTIVITY LEVEL This trip requires some mobility without the use of a wheelchair or scooter, as most of the tours are walking tours for up to 3 hours, which may include walking on cobblestone streets and stairs. A ‘Gentle Walkers’ group is offered on most included walking tours, which accommodates those needing a little extra time and sometimes offers a shortened version of a tour, designed to encounter as few stairs as possible.

If you are bringing a portable wheelchair or collapsible travel scooter, you must be able to collapse it and store it in your cabin. It cannot be used to get around the ship, only while off the ship on tours that are wheelchair/scooter accessible. On tours, the usefulness of a portable wheelchair or scooter may be limited because we will be navigating cobblestone streets with hard curbs (no curb cutouts) and stairs.

If you have limited mobility, you are required to travel with someone who can assist you.

FLIGHTSAll flights should arrive into Francisco Sa Carneiro Airport (OPO) in Porto, Portugal by 3 pm on March 26, 2022 to get to the ship in time for our orientation and evening plans, which begin at 5 pm. The airport is approximately 20 minutes from the ship’s docking location. All guests should be on board by 5 pm.

If you plan to join us on a 1- or 3-night pre-trip Vacation Stretcher, you should fly into Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) in Lisbon, Portugal and out of Francisco Sa Carneiro Airport (OPO) in Porto, Portugal.

All flights can depart Porto (OPO) at any time on April 2, 2022, because the ship will overnight in Porto on April 1. Transfer to the airport is on your own, but the ship will assist in making taxi reservations.
