Port Development and Logistics Business Forum Indonesia – Netherlands Jakarta, 10 October 2011 Organized by the Embassy of the Netherlands _____________________________________________________________ Aim: 1) To identify innovative solutions for improved ports and logistics. 2) To provide a networking opportunity for Indonesian and Dutch decisionmakers, investors, contractors and operators in the sector of ports & logistics. 3) To stimulate further bilateral cooperation, including joint investments. Rapid growth ports & logistics sector in Indonesia The Government of Indonesia has declared improvement of ports and logistics a priority. Efficient ports and a well developed logistic system are much needed to increase the inter- connectivity between the islands and to support economic growth, and the movement of goods and persons. There are 2,000 ports in Indonesia. As part of President Yudhoyono’s Master Plan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesia's Economic Development 2011- 2025 (MP3EI), private and public sector investment to the amount of USD 13.7 billion is planned in port infrastructure. In addition, most privately owned ports have plans to invest billions US dollars in port expansion and improvement. There are many opportunities to expand cooperation between Indonesia and the Netherlands. Both countries share a seafaring tradition and are strategically located, offering a gateway to South-East Asia respectively Europe. In both countries major international ports are located in the middle of densely populated areas, which requires innovative solutions to optimize port accessibility and logistics.
