TEAM CHIHULY
From the start of the American studio glass movementin the early 1960s, Dale Chihuly was instrumental in bringing glassmaking out of the factory and into the experimental environment of the artist’s studio. As the function and development of Chihuly’s workevolved into large-scale objects and installations, it became apparent that the role of the single gafferwould have to be transformed into a carefully choreo-graphed team effort. This led Chihuly to put togetherteams of twelve or more people working in tandem to execute his ever-expanding series of ideas.
CHIHULY BELLAGIO
We invite you to explore Fiori di Como, a colorfulgarden of glass hanging overhead, created by DaleChihuly in 1998 specifically for the Bellagio Hoteland Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. This revisededition includes all-new photographs and an expandedformat highlighting the 2,000-piece installation, accom-panied by a twenty-minute DVD of the installation.

CHIHULY SEAFORMS
“The Seaforms seemed to come about by accident, as much of my work does—by chance. We wereexperimenting with some ribbed molds. ... Byblowing the pieces into ribbed molds, it gave themmore strength.”
— Dale Chihuly
Part of Chihuly’s talent is making a highly complexart form appear simple and natural. Chihuly soughtto strengthen glass by forming it in a ribbed mold, reinforcing the glass much as corrugation adds strengthto cardboard. The glass, now traced with radial lines, could withstand more vigorous manipulation, especiallyshaking and crimping, which introduced longitudinalripples and pleats.

CHIHULY DRAWING
Chihuly Drawing chronicles four decades of DaleChihuly’s work on paper. This dynamic collection is a fascinating study of variety. Many of the drawingsare drenched in thick, bold layers. Others are moreelusive—just a hint of form sketched with a fistfulof pencils or a confidently manipulated charcoal.Over the years his style has evolved, becoming moreabstract, more elaborate, and, in some cases, muchlarger. But there are no rules; a that Chihuly favoreda decade before may resurface again. The excitementof Chihuly’s work on paper is in its unpredictability, and that in two dimensions Chihuly is free to let his grandest schemes come to fruition. Above all,Chihuly’s work on paper revels in the monumentalcreativity that is essentially Chihuly.
CHIHULY OVER VENICE
Like much of Dale Chihuly’s work, Chihuly OverVenice was not simply an installation—it was anenthralling experience. This colorful journal documentsthe culmination of Chihuly’s artistic odyssey from hisSeattle hotshop to four of the greatest glassmakingcenters in the world: Nuutajärvi, Finland; Waterford,Ireland; Monterrey, Mexico; and finally Venice, Italy.Chihuly and his American team worked in eachcountry with local glassblowers to create a series of Chandeliers. The outcome was distinctively“Chihuly”: fourteen brilliant Chandeliers graced the campos and canals of Venice for a remarkabletime in September 1996.
CHIHULY PERSIANS
Dale Chihuly spent more than one year exploring newforms before he arrived at the Persian series, which is loosely based on Islamic glass. Many consider the Persians, which are marked by color saturation, bands of color, and highly unusual forms, to beChihuly’s most powerful series. Chihuly Persianstakes readers from Chihuly’s first Persian experimentsin small forms to the complex and sizable installationsthat transformed sections of major institutions such as the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Palais du Louvre, Paris, France.

CHIHULY ALLA MACCHIA
Macchia means “spotted” in Italian, but ever sincethe Renaissance, the word has been associatedwith a sketchlike method of applying the initial colorto a drawing or painting. Dale Chihuly took this ideato the hotshop and produced the Macchia series.
Chihuly alla Macchia presents the series, along with close-up detailed photographs and Chihuly’sdrawings, to give readers an intimate view of each of the Macchia. The dramatic nature of this series is beautifully presented in Chihuly alla Macchia.
ICICLES: THE ICICLE CREEK CHANDELIER
Icicles: The Icicle Creek Chandelier chronicles theremarkable story of how, from Thanksgiving toChristmas 1996, one of Dale Chihuly’s most start-ling and challenging outdoor installations took form.
Chihuly’s team of glassblowers created the IcicleCreek Chandelier in Leavenworth, Washington, from 1,200 parts. With help from environmentalconsultants and Chihuly’s own installation specialists, the Chandelier was installed amid snow and thecold of winter.
