Campus Landscape Design08/2015 —09/2015

The design concept is inspired by water flow. By analyzing the form of water flow, three routes in campusare evolved and the different feelings about space are created at the same time.

Based on the analysis of original site, the features and functions of the design are able to be expanded and get more functionalized.

The water divides each site into two parts, which become rest area and viewing area. To see and to be seen become .The interesting relationship in the design.

Small stream: The form of small stream is curving, which creates a lowing space. So people’s actions on the pass are mainly

Riverbank: The water lows at High velocity. Peo-ple have to walks fast in straight paths thuscreates a express passage

River rocks: for some reason It restrain the form of the paths Eventhouh there is no boarder.People will try to cross the paths. The design maintain the original paths

Both two sites locate at teachign area. Site 2 is a sinking type land-form which is adjacent to department of arichtecture but far away from other departments. The site 2 has low accessibility, so few students take activities here. The site is good for people who seek for quiet and is reformed to parking area. Site 1 locates at the exit of Passage AB which is the traic hub. The tranportation function takes the most place.

Site 1 and Site 2 locate at the traic hub with a high accessibility. Site 1 is nearby the de-partment of architecture, hospital, material building, college of city environment. There are lots of paths inside the site, but some of them are not in use. Our plan will repair those paths. The book house in Site 1 is now closed for some reason It will be reopened in our design and more functions will be added.

Huge amount of lawns are designed to provide a chance for people to get closer to the nature and relax themselves.

For the decoration, we use streamline design and coordinate with flowing space, in order to achieve naturality, pravicy and oreintation. For example, setting a rock

bench and hear the sound of water is a enjoyable thing to do.

Location Chongqing: Chongqing has abbreviation, Yu or Ba and also known as mountain city, Yu city, bridge city and foggy city. It is one of China’s four direct-controlled municipalities, one of the ive national central cities in China, the city of hot spring, international shipping center, center of inance, art, communication, science and education in upper reaches of Yangtze river, the important transportation junction. Nanan District: Nanan District Locates at the south of Yang-tze river is a important component of Chongqing. It containsmanufacturing district, central business district, international exhibition district and scenic spots. Plant resource Most of the plants grow naturally in this area and only a few artiicial plant can be found. Because of the water level changes of Yangtze river, natural extinction of plants can be found which means ecological protection is essential. There are lots of vegetable patches founded by tramps. Lack of regulation, enough sunshine cause a bed growth of plants. Therefore beautiful landscape is hard to achieve.

ArchitectureThe site locates under the Caiyuanba Bridge and Chongqing Yangtze River Bridge which are two main landscape architecture

Water resourceThe site locates at the south bank of Yangtze river where has a plenty of water resource. Water level diference can reach to 15 meters due to lood discharge for each year. In dry season, the water level goes down and some of the riverbed are exposed. In wet season, the water level increases and some the bank are drowned.

Soil resourceThe soil type is alluvial soil and its parent material is very complex. The colors of the soil are mostly taupe, purple brown and yellow. The soil nutrition is abundant including K, Ca, Na, Mg and other metallic elements which is good for agricultural uses. However, because the site is close to the river, there are lot of uncertainties to make it unstable.

Analysis of terrain There is a huge drop between the highest point and the lowest point in the site. Basically, the terrain is complex and uneven. Steep slop is nearby the river and the area under the bridge is mostly lat. The entire site is gradient and the river shape is curving. All of them should be considered carefully in the design.

-19-

Current condition

Through simple communication and observation, we found that most of the tramps are male who possess the work ability with extremely low level of education. Only one of them has a high school diploma and work in construction site. Other tramps collect garbage and beg for livings. A young tramp tell us that they all have their own territory under the bridge and no one like to talk with others, because they want to stay alone. Most of them are hard to communicate with normal people .

Huanggedu overpass bridge is a part of Yangtze River bridge and a intersection of main traffic. It locates at the intersection of Nanbin Road, Jiangan Boulevard and 3rd Yangtze river bridge road. Metro line 1, 2 and 3 runs in this area, which provide convenience for residences to travel. The traffic volume is large here, overall it is traffic hub in Nanan district

StrengthAdjacent to the Yangtze River with rich water resource. You can approach to the riverside from this site.Locates nearby the important traffic hub and scenic road -----Nanbin Road. The area is prosperous in Nanan District which is opposite to Yuzhong District.

Weakness Because of the charge and discharge of Yangtze River, the water level varies significantly in a year. The terrain is very complex and the slope is high and uneven. The sites has bad coordination with the nearby environment, because its location which make the entire site narrow.

Opportunity Tramps live under the bridge and the design will provide convenience for them. There has never been a construction on the site before, so it reduce the lot of problems. The view of Yangtze River is wonderful in this site.

Threat Yangtze River is one side of the site and on the other side is overpass bridge. There is few traveler and it is hard to reach this site through traffic road in the city. The terrain own huge differences and the nearby scenery can not mix well with the site.

The distribution of the construction and green ecological acreage are shown by abstract stratified analysis. The design is to improve the living environment of

the homeless population by the means of ecological landscape.

he project aims to build the garden style residence

This plan take advantage of the integration of view

and architecture, which shows the design principle of

integrity, ecology, economy.

The location of the residence and the distribution of

the views are full considered, in order to provide a

feeling like living in the garden for citizens.

-33-

Beside The Nature

-34-

-35-

The road system is divided into main streets, secondary streets, and trails. Main streets go through the residential area with 4 entrances, leading to the surrounding construction. Secondary streets connect inner buildings. Trails

spread between the nodes among each landscape.

-36-

The vision of activity areas and squares is wide. Plants grow in reasonable configuration. The vision of viewing area is relatively enclosed, with a hierarchical

plant layout.

The residential design combines the hard landscape and the soft landscape, divides the area according to the residential function. It forms different and

connected landscape nodes, and also a scenery unity. Thus, it creates a park living environment, improving the urban ecological landscape.
