THE L.A. River St r ip Many of the most character is t ic urban spaces in Los Angeles could be concidered ‘s t re tches’ ra ther than ‘d is t r ic ts ’ . A t rad i t ion of mobi l i ty has resu l ted in the c i ty ’s many iconic Str ips. Landmarks through which to nav igate, meet, consume, and move. The ex is t ing s t r ips in Los Angeles a l l cons is t of a ser ies of d iverse zones. Of ten there are undef ined areas in between, but the Str ip t ies them together. Analys ing these areas created the foundat ion for a proposed devel-opment of a new Str ip a long the Los Angeles River. Cleantech Manufacturing CenterThe Villaraigosa Cleantech Manufacturing Center initiative is located on the western side of the river.

The Second RiverThe Second River is used for large scale water treatment research in a dam environment.

The Green RayThe algae and water from the Green Ray are first used to cool the roof and are then separated; the algae provide organic material for Sears Palace, the water is re-cycled into the dam.

Sears PalaceSears Palace is a biogas facility collecting organic waste from the Strip and Down-town Los Angeles. The biogas produced provide the Los Angeles bus fleet with fuel, and also run a heat engine to generate electricity distributed to the strip.

Biogas Fuel StopFueling local buses and biogas cars.

The Digester Roof Top Bar

The Rio Vista Center for Environmental Urban StudiesFocusing on renewable energy and water issues in an ur-ban context, the center is a node for conferences, seminars and informal meetings between global greentech con-glomerates and local university and private researchers.

The Contain-O-Pod systemThe solarpowered waste containers carry the strips organic waste, paper and com-bustibles to Sears Palace and nearby fa-cilities on elevated rail. The system is moni-tored centrally and create no boundaries in ground level. Every fifth Contain-O-Pod is used for personal transport, which create mixed usage.
