Paul Ayres HNDip, ACIAT, ICIOB

Paul has varied work experience with well known architectural practices,

property developers, an interior designer and project management company,

with knowledge of various sectors, including industrial, R+D, residential,

mixed-use and office interiors.

Currently Paul is the Central Technical Unit (CTU) Manager for SIP Project

Management in Shanghai, a UK owned company. Paul’s main function is to

manage the department, which provides multi-discipline technical advice and

support services for all stages of project delivery within the business, reporting

to the Board with operational and financial responsibility. The CTU consists of

15 members of staff, including architects, mechanical and electrical

engineers, quantity surveyors and green building engineers. Day to day duties

include: Managing and directing technical resources to ensure smooth

workflow, high quality and timely delivery. Input into project definitions,

budgets, tender analysis and design reviews. Running technical multi-

discipline meetings including Stage 1 workshops, design reviews and

miscellaneous solution focused/problem solving technical meetings.

Coordinating and implementing quality assurance checking and overall

technical monitoring of all team deliverables. Identifying, developing and

implementing CTU product development initiatives and procedural/template

improvements and updates. Providing technical support for the purposes of

business development, including attending meetings, seminars, preparing

proposals and scheduling, costing of deliverables and resources.

CTU Projects are predominantly industrial and R+D type facilities, for

multinational companies. Paul has successfully delivered some of the most

complex and challenging projects for the company, in the role of CTU

Manager, Design Manager and Architect.

Previously Paul managed a production drawing office for a leading UK

architectural practice. The office grew from 7 to 30 staff over a 3 year period,

providing UK property developers with detailed construction documentation.

Paul Ayres is an architectural and

construction professional, with 19 years

working experience in architectural design,

design management and building

construction, with 9 of these years spent

working in China. Paul is qualified with a

Higher Diploma in Building Studies from

the United Kingdom, gaining specific

architectural units, allowing professional

affiliation to the Chartered Institute of

Architectural Technologists and the

Chartered Institute of Builders.

SIP were appointed by Carl Zeiss to provide a concept and preliminary design for their new production, office

and R+D facility in Waigaoqiao, that will assemble high precision measurement equipment. Not only did the

client expect a very high level of detail, but significant changes to the requirements at a late stage, put the

design process under great pressure. The combination of Haisum and SIP, both managed by Paul Ayers were

not only able to deliver all requests and requirements from Carl Zeiss, but successfully deliver the preliminary

design before the original deadline

• Single level production warehouse building of 6,458m² and a 4 storey office and R+D building of 9,750m²

The concept design was led by Architect Paul Ayres, Paul then switched to Design Manager to manage the

preliminary design with Haisum (LDI)
