Assignment/Activity Title— Info Flow Show Open Year—Freshman Skill— Script Writing/Acting Portfolio Category— Social Awareness For Drama class, Ms. Jeral decided to let us choose our own groups, for a play we would be creating, and then acting later on in the year. After choosing my group, we had to choose a topic, or overall theme that our play was going to be focused on. Considering it had to be a social problem or conflict that we had to relate to an audience on, we chose racism. Since racism is a rampant topic in today’s society, we thought it would be a good idea to focus on it for our play. In preparation for writing our script, we had to come up with characters that we collectively agreed would help us examine if racism is still a prevalent thing in the society we live in. We ended up making the script as a children’s story to lighten up the touchy issue. Through the process we went from believing the characters should be human, to animals. We felt making the characters as animals, in a society that is not fully developed, but rather indigenous and raw, we could solely convey the topic, without having to examine every aspect of what causes racism. Developing a sensitive topic into a play that is centered around a children’s story, was challenging, but was easier since it was a group project. Overall this project helped me gain knowledge on the history of racism during the civil rights movement. I also learned that collectively working with a group of people is especially more effective than working independently when brainstorming on ideas for a play.

For Drama class, Ms. Since racism is a rampant topic in todays society, we thought it would be a good idea to focus on it for our play.

In preparation for writing our script, we had to come up with characters that we collectively agreed would help us examine if racism is still a prevalent thing in the society we live in. We ended up making the script as a childrens story to lighten up the touchy issue. Through the process we went from believing the characters should be human, to animals. We felt making the characters as animals, in a society that is not fully developed, but rather indigenous and raw, we could solely convey the topic, without having to examine every aspect of what causes racism.

Developing a sensitive topic into a play that is centered around a childrens story, was challenging, but was easier since it was a group project. Overall this project helped me gain knowledge on the history of racism during the civil rights movement.
