AWARDS HONORS AND ACHIEVEMENTSMy project from Winter 2011 was featured in an archinect article (http://archinect.com/news/article.php?id=105572_0_24_0_C ) and the Spaceship Earth exhibit at OBJCT Gallery in Claremont, CA, April 1-May 1, 2011. One of my greatest achievements to date was when I was awarded the student of the year award in the 2009-2010 school year (third year undergraduate). I was given this honor at the department of architecture’s annual Bauhaus Ball. Along with this award I was chosen to showcase my work in the Fall 2009, Winter 2010, Spring 2010, Fall 2010, and Spring 2011 Interim Design Exhibit. Interim is a quarterly exhibit hosted by the Department of Architecture to celebrate the design excellence of students from the previous quarter. The projects I showed were selected by the architecture faculty to be exhibited to students, faculty, and fans of architecture, as well as special guests who were invited to Cal Poly. Most recently I took second place in a design competition in the Fall 2010. With this I received a six hundred dollar scholarship from the Precast Pre-stressed Concrete Institute. I received two scholarships in high school, which include the Governor’s Scholarship and an award I received from the Chino Valley Baseball Association. The Governor’s Scholarship was awarded to me in 2004 because of my scores on the state testing and Chino Valley award was given to me because of my academic grades during the baseball season.
PARTICIPATION IN COMMUNITY WORK AND VOLUNTEERI am a member of The American Institute of Architects Students (AIAS). This is a club that is designated for those students within the major of architecture. As a club we hold events such as Interim and other social events. ENV Career Day Council is a club that hosts a Career day for the college of environmental design, in which firms from the Southern California area come and interview future employees. In this club we have biweekly meeting which are of mandatory attendance. I am currently helping with registration by calling different firms and guiding them through the registration on our website. Also on the day of the event I will be helping with the organization and guiding firms when they arrive to Cal Poly. I am also part of Tau Sigma Delta (TSD). TSD is an honor society that is strictly based on current academic GPA. We are a group of student that helps mentor the student who are in first year of architecture. We also hold events throughout the
academic year in which I help with organization, publicity, and event planning.
PARTICIPATION IN CAMPUS ACTIVITIES, CLUBS, ORGANIZATIONSCurrently I participate as a docent at the VDL house in Silverlake. I give tours to guests who come to visit the house that Richard Neutra, architect, once inhabited. Over the past few years I have refereed various basketball games and tournaments at my former elementary school, Bon View Elementary School. I have helped my uncle by coaching and mentoring his son, my cousin’s, baseball team. I have participated in practices and games. Being a former baseball player I believe it is my duty to help those who would like to play baseball. On occasion I have participated as part of a critic panel for student work at Mount San Antonio College for a former teacher of mine. Here I am able to help those students, who are planning to transfer to a 5 years school in architecture, reach their goals. Last Winter I volunteered as a docent for the John Lautner exhibit in at the Palm Springs Art Museum. Here I gave multiple one hour tours to the public for theexhibit, Between Heaven and Earth: The Architecture of John Lautner.
