A HOUSE FOR ANTON CHEKHOV

THREE SIDES TO ONE STORY:

The project consist of three struc-tures that serve three distinctive purposes for Chekhov - fam-ily man, Chekhov - doctor and Chekhov - public figure.

CHEKHOV AS A WRITER:

“Medicine is my lawful wife and literature my mistress; when I get tired of one, I spend the night with the other”. Chekvov - writer is hidden away from public eyes, only to take over Chekhov’s pri-vate space.

SIMPLE MATERIALS:

Humility was the strongest trait of Chekhov’s personality. Al-ways modest, he could hardly have imagined the extent of his posthumous reputation and never spoke about his efforts in organization of relief of victims of cholera, famine, building public schools and libraries, providing free medication to those in need.

DETAILS:

Characters in Chekhov’s writ-ings are regular people, who lack any notion of heroism in their everyday lives, but come alive because of great feeling of the inner emotions.

PASSAGEWAYS:

“When I think back on my child-hood, it all seems quite gloomy to me”. Chekhov’s life, lived to the fullest, was not always an easy journey, but was always illumi-nated by presence of friends and public success.
