“ Heather came from her University life-style to a professional atmosphere for a week during her placement and settled in perfectly on day one. She soon realised that projects didn’t take months like those at university, but hours! Heather settled in with this working trend very well and was able to quickly and efficiently turn around work and become a valuable resource to myself and the other members in the office. Heather was able to produce several pieces of work over the course of her week with us including a brochure for the company which were very impressed with and plan to put to print in the next few weeks. I look forward to perhaps working with Heather in the near future. ”

This was a live brief set by University of Derby. The main objective was to capture the attention of students and make them more aware of the help available for maths and english. My idea was to use flyers and posters that could be folded into paper planes. This would capture the student attention and make them look at the flyer even if they just made the plane up and through it. I designed a poster with a tag line “your grades will fly high” This was to connect with the flyers so it could be used in the corridors of the University. This project was very successful and increased the popularity of the classes within maths & english support.

I am very proud to be apart of ‘DAB’ (now Sight Support Derbyshire). Not only has it helped me develop my leadership and Management skills i have also grown in confidence within my work. All the work i do for SSD is voluntary, i enjoy working with the charity and hope that the work i do will generate more sponsorship to help people that are blind or have sight problems. I was asked to re-design the logo for the charity as they wanted to update and revive the brand DAB. The project turned out to be very successful and i was able to see my design in and around derby, this gave me the drive and enthusiasm within my university course and freelance work.

I am a Junior Graphic Designer from Derbyshire. I studied Visual Communication at University Of Derby. I have gained experience through unpaid work and volunteering for Sight Support Derbyshire. Being able to work with companies and help organizations has been a positive experience. I have been able to build a portfolio and gain useful skills within the industry. My main focus is in print, I enjoy creating identities and solving problems. I have a fascination with magazines and paper, my dream project would be to have no budget for print and complete freedom within the design. “As i said, dream”. I like to work alone but find working as a team helps develop ideas to there full potential.

“All good things come in small packages”

I have created a box as my identity to send to potential employees. I have made this box that holds inside something personal to the company and my website. This image will then go onto my letter heads and business card. The idea is that all good things = my portfolio, come in small packages = Box sent.
