Tom and Nancy Barr are retired and live
in Libertyville, Illinois and winter in Palm
Springs, California. The home is upscale
and expresses Mid Century Modern
design. The client has requested a new
interior design that is current with all
the universal design requirements
and that the interior design is
sensitive to Mid Century Modern.
The juxtaposition of the man made
and the natural will come together in
harmony in the Barr residence. This
allows the outdoors to be brought
indoors. The living spaces will mix
textures of wood, metal, glass and stone.

Influenced by the elegance and grace
exemplified by the 1950’s jet setting
era, this hotel will be an oasis for people
to revert back to a more glamorous
time. The classic cars on the cobble
stone streets of Havana Cuba were a
Reflection of a simpler time. Grand,
voluptuous, and oversized are words
to describe their style and class. The
sleek lines and shiny chrome will be
the inspiration for this hotel design.
CONCEPT STATEMENT
Develop a design concept for a
hotel project based in Havana,
Cuba. This hotel design will be
a five star luxury boutique hotel.

Develop a design for a table based
on photographs of abstract shadows.
This table will be professionally cut
by a CNC machine and assembled,
stained, and finished by hand.
Inspiration for this table was taken
from the abstract shadow photograph
seen on the left. The table mimics the
simple curve in the photograph. The
table was assembled by the process
of lamination, creating the illusion
that it is one single piece of wood.

contemporary or traditional design.
The choice of materials, finishes,
furniture, textiles, art, and accessories
will follow from the design concept.
Scenes of the Orient will be featured in
the Streeterville Residence by taking
inspiration from the style of Chinoiserie
as a main design concept. By combining
colors, patterns, textures, and antiques of
traditional Chinese design with traditional
French furniture, this fusion will bring
East and West together under one roof.
