Soft Cookerysousvide cooking appliance

Page 7: Portfolio

Soft Cookery is a sousvide cooking appliance . The project starting point is the alimentary education and the constancy that everyone should have leading a varied and balanced diet. By analyzing the different cooking method and product, I decided to focus on sousvide cooking, a technique that is not already diffused in the domestic context, but that is spreadying in restaurant industry. The benefits are the complete saving of nutritional values, the tools cleanliness and the total cooking autonomy.Soft Cookery can be controlled by smartphone thanks to an application that allows the user to personalize and change the cooking sets. I lead all this project by myself supported by a materials prefessor.

the whole dimensions are 380 x 330 mm and 340 mm high. that have been decided according to standard

kitchen dimensions and undervacuum plastic bags yet available on the market.

the exterior body, the superior structure and the relative flaps are made of aBS. the drawer is made of aBS too and metallized to increase heat and humidity resistance.the undervacuum tool is made of metallized PP in order to use its flexibility.

7

the word “daily” express how soft cookery is an appliance to be used everyday. “Soft” tells the tenderness of a sousvide meal.

The crate fits in the upper part of the body and the two lower flaps on the upper one, are linked by an hinge to the crate. the two lower flaps help the food to slide down into the drawer with the cooking water inside. The crate is divided into two parts to persuade the user to lead a varied diet.

The pullout drawer run along two tracks made by ribs on the external body. There is a resistor drowned inside the material, in the lower part of the drawer and a thermostat in the backside fastened to the body by two screw. In this way the drawer can be washed easily.

The lower part is made of a little pump that puts the bag undervacuum, linked to a little fan that rotates thanks to a motor. The front tool is a plate made of metallized PP, that has been bent so when the user pull it, it will open, showing the resistor wire on the front side to seal the bag.

Grecalemolten rock tiles

Page 13: Portfolio

Grecale is a project born by the collaboration with the sicilian company Le Nid, that works with molten rock and maiolica. This is a tiles system for privat gardens based on the idea that the wind can produce sounds while passing through the holes created in the tile shape. The team was composed only by two people, the idea of the wind came up from me but since the workshop lasts 5 days we worked together all the time to make the most of the it. By placing tiles with decreasing dimension holes , the wind speed grows thanks to Venturi effect, and it produces sounds. There are two other kinds of tiles: one for ischiadic seat and one hook to hang clothes or backpacks on it. There is also one kind of flat tile that serves to structure the other ones.

each tile is 30 mm wide, except the seat tile that is 60 mm to ensure more resistance. every tile is 300 mm high and they can be placed on every kind of wall.the flat tiles are 16 mm tick the maximum diameter for the wind tiles is 50 mm.

all tiles are made of smoothed molten rock. this is a very rigid and resistant natural material, known for its deep dark colour.in the project there is the possibility to paint one side with a dedicated polish, to create a good visual effect and to enrich the structure colour.

Grecale is the name of the sicilian wind and this call back to memory the tradition that Sicily loves. i also put the shape layout of the tiles hole sequence.

The render here figures the set where Grecale should be placed and how all tiles can be placed, but every user can choose his disposal. He can also choose to put or not, a polish layer in three different colours that calls back natural hue. That tiles sequence shows only partially every previous varnished side and this originate wavy sight effect.

icon object - mortar

We’ve been asked also to design a icon object that would recall the tiles system and the project values and shape. The result is a mortar, to highlight the project background: the privat garden where

probably the user has mixed erbs or plants. It use the same shape of the tiles and ta part of he handle becomes the pestle by extracting it from the upper part. The mortar is made of molten rock too.

Hair donuthandy curling iron

Page 17: Portfolio

Hair Donut is a daily solution for those users that want to have natural-like curly hair everyday without wasting time. In fact this product could be used putting it directly on user’s head simply doing a ponytail. It operates slowly and kindly heating the hair and the user does not need to hold it so she can do other activities while Hair Donut is curling her hair. There is a base station that act like a charger and a location to put it while it is not in use.

During this project I’ve been focusing on the use of materials and the internal structure both of the donut, and the base station.

the donut external radius is 10 mm and the internal one is 4 mm. this allows the donut to be both light

and big enough to make a nice and natural-like curl.

Hair Donut external part is made of soft silicon that ensure both high heat resistance, and the right balance between insulation and conduction. the internal structure is made of a metallic body and a gypsum support for the resistor.there is a external part made of teflon so that the user can handle the hot donut.

this logo immediatly communicates the product shape and suggests its usability.

Page 19: Portfolio

This section shows the donut internal structure: the outer layer is made of silicon 10 mm thick to have the proper insulation. The metallic body is divided horizontally into two parts and has ribs to hold up the gypsum part, that brings the resistor inside. The teflon part is hollow and inside there is the cable that link the resistor with the base station.

hair care save time long lasting

Hair Donut works with low temperature, despite normale curling iron, to avoid ruining the hair. On the other side, time exposure it’s longer. Together with the product itself there would be an hair care spray to put before using the curling iron.

Hair Donut helps the user to save time, in fact this product does not prevent the user from doing other activities, so she can do her everyday morning routine while the curling iron is working.

The estimated exposure time is about 5 minute: this helps the curling iron to make a long lasting curl, also thanks to a dedicated hair spray.

the ischiadic seat is made of stainless steel pipes supported by due vertical tubes for each module, shape in order to follow an ergonomic silhouette.those horizontal pipes are covered by Pu gel, a soft touch material that allows a good comfort and grip.the display is an outdoor lCD touch screen.

Info Lean is a modular system that can fit every shelter and can stand by itself as a bus stop. Its proposal is to improve bus shelter holding more user than actual ones. This project was made by two people and my idea was to use an ischiadic seat to improve the shelter capability and also thanks to the short waiting time and the consequent less need of a comfortable seat that otherwise would take more space. Info Lean includes also a interactive lcd dispay to lead the user to public transportaion map. I designed the display interface using one similar to google maps, that can show the waiting times, metro and bus station and their trail, switching them on or off.

the total height is 1.9 meters and each sitting module is 0.8 meter long.the advertising panels are made to introduce a new format and the display is 40 inch.

this name immediatly explaind what is the main value of the project: the information display.there is shown also

the shape of the sitting module.

These modules can be composed depending on how many people

usually need a seat in that waiting area.

A new advertising format has been proposed and this would

refound all the installation cost.

With this solution the space is optimized because the waiting

time is quite short.

Matriòscrewdriver

Page 25: Portfolio

Matriò is born as a provocation to the screwdriver archetype. The main value is recalled by the shape: in fact there are two screwdrivers in one, like a matrioska. This project wants to focus on the sensibility aspect of the materials and our team chose to use the memory foam to highlight its ergonomy. I focused on the usability carried into visibility, in fact the face-like shape is the part where the user is persuaded to put his thumb; and for the lower screwdriver we decided to put a grip texture and to highligh the zone where the user should put his fingers to avoid sliding toward the screwdriver blade.

the whole height is 200 mm which 110 is for the handle. the lower screwdriver is 30 mm high and 50 mm large: this could be uncomfortable, that’s why we decided to put the gripping texture.

Memory foam is made of different layers that grow their desnsity going toward the central part: this allows to create a structure to locate the blade. this material can be shaped thanks to hand heat and pressure and then it goes back to its original size. the lower part is made of aBS covered by a silicon texture

this logo calls back to the product joyfulness and the rounded shapes. the name is a short form for matrioska, to suggest its function.

The blade is made of a metallic alloy aften used for screwdriver: steel-chrome-vanadium, that provide a good hardenability and resistance to corrosion and oxidation. The blade goes into the superior part till the half of it.

The lower screwdrive is made of ABS, harder and easy to shape material. The blade is drowned during the molding.

The upper body is made of memory foam: a poliurethanic foam that got shaped when in contact with the user’s hand.It can be molded so it’s easier to shape.

A texture layer covers the ABS body, to make the usability easier because the lower screwdriver does not have a sufficient ergonomic shape. The texture is made to avoid the user’s hand to slide toward the blade while using it.

Cutterwood design

Page 29: Portfolio

The cutter has been made by a beech board, first cutted in the right dimension to obtain 5 equal modules. Two holes has been made on each piece being precise with the right distance between them , to allineate each module properly. Then we linked all pieces with glue and a beech dowel pin, took it in shape with clamps and let it rest. Then with the perforating machine we made the lower handles following the project dimensions. Using the milling machine we made a round along all the upper profile. We worked in a team composed by four people and we designed the cutter to make it seems as if it were made in one piece. The team cooperated with a good role interchangeability, even if I practiced better with the drills and the milling machine

Chairwood design

Page 31: Portfolio

With the same team we did an exercise to practice with tight cuttings and joints, driven by a given project. We used two kinds of frame to make precise cuttings and we completed it with an hacksaw. For the handles we made two holes and joint these with the hacksaw again. To smooth the surface we used a belt sander and put natural oil on it.The used kind of wood was birch plywood.

Wall lampwood design

Page 33: Portfolio

This lamp was born to modulate the light on user necessity. Depending on the frontal pannel grade, it lights in a different way the upper and the lower part of the room where it’s put. The used wood is beech and pieces has been first planed because they were curved and then sized due to the project. We decided to put an alluminium profile on the frontal pannel because of his lenght, to avoid to get curved; on the same piece two holes has been made on the two opposite minor faces to link it to the backward structure. In this project I had also to make sure that the angles between the structure and the frontal pannel would mate, for that reason we used a graded sew by 73°. The lamp hangs to the wall thanks to holes made in the rear.

Modelingshaping materials

Page 35: Portfolio

Models made were derived from different materials. The model for the project Soft Cookery has been made of polystyrene modeled with the help of guides with hot wire, razor knife and sandpaper. Then proce-eded with the application of paint to a wall and finished with spray paint to water. For the workshop that led to the draft Grecale have been developed prior modules in plaster, whose concept has then continued along the path, while the models of the final design has been made of polystyre-ne.With the purpose of exercise was carried out in a shear feeds, shaping the material with jigsaw and sandpaper.

santos

The software was used to study the posture of a user of an handbike. Since the positioning of the body on the apparatus, it is possible to calculate the arts and arts systems that are more in traction. Thanks to Santos it was also possible to follow the change of the posture according

to the position of the hands as a result of the displacement of the handlebars. From this analysis it is possible to draw conclusions about the quality of the product and follow the ergonomic improvement.
