Cympak is the Russian word for dusk or twilight, which is the only light that is experienced all year long. Being so close to the Artic Circle, the city experiences white nights. From June to July the city never sees darkness. On the other hand, the Winter season only has a few hours of light per day. The seasons are opposites, and this will be inspiration for the Cympak restaurant. Traditional styles will be complemented by its modern opposite.
The objective for this project is to design a restaurant that is located inside a hotel. The all-day dining restaurant needs to seat a minimum of 200 guests. Also required are two private dining rooms, bar, and retail zone.

The Royal Lux Hotel takes inspiration from Russian royalty. At times St. Petersburg, Russia was home to many tsars. Athough the royal family no longer rules Russia, its grand presence has not left the city. Russian royalty had rich and sophisticated taste. In keeping with St. Petersburg past and present, the hotel will be a modern refl ection of the tsars’ style.
The objective for this project is to design a hotel outside the United States. Guest rooms should accommodate queen, king, and suite styles. The hotel has to be a four or fi ve star quality. Guest rooms need to be designed to store all ammenities and equipment. The hotel lobby needs to include reception, concierge, bell desk, luggage storage, bar, lounge, administration offi ces, and a safe deposit room.

Novel is a bookshelf who’s concept comes from stories that have a beginning, middle, and end. This is represented in the three rings. The books lay on the shelves in many diff erent positions, similar to how a story line can take many diff erent turns.
This project requires assembling and fi nishing a furniture piece using one 4’ X 8’ sheet of plywood. Sketching and study models are to be made while developing the design. A cut sheet along with perspectives are needed for the fabricator to properly cut the wood.

SmileWerks is a dental offi ce inspired by the Steampunk movement. An industiral look will infl uence the overall design. Pulley lighting, exposed ceilings, steel, and copper will make up this raw space.
This projects requires working with a group to coordinate all construction documentation. A complete set of details along with specifi cations are to be included.

Hui Jia in Mandarin translates to “returning home.” This project focuses on helping those with Alzheimers feel like they are at home while living at an assisted-living facility. The building echoes a lotus fl ower, which in Chinese culture teaches the benefi ts of overcoming diffi cult situations. The colors are taken from precious stones used for healing in Chinese medicine.
This project requires watching the movie “Memento” and fi nding a concept from the movie. The story follows a man with short-term memory loss who uses notes and tattoos to help him remember. After forming a team, we have to develop a concept, design fl oor plans, and build a model.

Northwestern Mutual’s new offi ce space is inspired by Chicago’s Buckingham Fountain. The water, natural stone, and neutral colors will be brought into the offi ce. The soothing eff ects the fountain has will keep the offi ce and its guests calm and relaxed.
This project requires working with an employee of Northwestern Mutual to discover what necessities are needed for the new offi ce space. After exploring diff erent building spaces, one will be decided on for the new location. Once a building is chosen, bubble diagrams and test fi ts will help to come up with a fi nal fl oor plan.

Sacred Spaces is a museum showcasing the works of architect Mario Botta. His designs combine modernism with roots in the middle ages and Romanesque styles. He believes in using open fl oor plans, symmetry, daylight, basic geometric shapes, and natural materials. The museum will display his architectural works, along with his furniture pieces.
This project requires a museum to be built with static and interactive displays. Outdoor areas are to also be considered. Details are to be included on all millwork.
