Semily is former district town in foothills at confluence of two rivers, which is surrounded by mountains and steep slopes. At the moment Semily are looking for idea of its own future development. In our project we pushed ahead the location of housing estate Řeky and former textile factory, which is almost unused. The estate housing with factory lies on an island bordered by river at one bank and artificial canal at the other bank. In the project we looked for new usage, which would be sustainable, adequate to locality, objectively realisable in near future and especially would boost the place and draw and tie up other functions. We chose vocation school, which field of study get along with de-mand and locality, so that Semily could become a town with coverage of education and would bring new residents. There is an unused area between the housing estate and the factory, which we replaced with system of water canals and fields. There canals and fields will be ded-icated mostly for education purposes, however thanks to grid of paths they will be the connecting and communicating element for residents of housing estate at the same time. This usage would allow the area to use it to development in case of request in future. In addition we solve small interventions, which bear on definition of lots for family housing, offer of recreation spots and improvement of total area accessibility.

VILLAGES MALÉ A VYSOKÉ BŘEZNODESIGN STUDIO - BIULDING COMPLEX| DESIGN STUDIO ŠÉPKAcooperation with R. Pozdníček, F. Rašek, M. Štěpař

Villages Malé a Vysoké Březno lie in northern Bohemia. Western and northern parts of the villages are bordered by already reculti-vated dumping hopper of nearby strip mine Vršany. Around 235 residents live there at present and number is steadily rising. Both villages deal with number of problems, which is for example confused center, over rush main road, high number of seedy build-ings, absence of municipal living for elderly people, lack of working opportunities or proper lots for construction of new fami-ly houses. Based on these facts the main points of project are curve of main road, which supports slowdown of drive through cars and completion of square structure in both villages. In Malé Březno we design cultural and social center accessible to all local-ities and containing necessary facilities as a new multipurpose hall with restaurant, kindergarten and store. At village square, there arise further family houses with space for owns business and senior living with common residential facility. Possibility of fu-ture joining of both villages is solved by new lots defined by regulation and paths, which help to connectedness of whole area.

Kladno and its city centre is a big challenge. On one hand there are big potencials and ambitions, on the other hand there are the re-mains of the development of socialistic city. We can find there development of prefabricated tower blocks, wide brownfield of former smelters and ruins after demolitions directly in the city centre. The target of the project was to find a suitable content for the vacant space in lucrative parts of the city. It is located in the close proximity of former Jewish synagogue, which belongs to significant his-torical buildings. Function of the object was designed with respect to selected locality and tendency to concentrate more residents to the centre of Kladno. The apartment building has four aboveground levels and one underground storey, where the collective ga-rages are located. Café and other areas for commercial use are placed in the first floor, while apartments are situated in the high-er storeys. The rest of the grounds is paved and serves as an open area with the possibility of view on the Kladno industrial zone. With its location and appearance the building goes along with the surrounding and offers pleasant private and public environment.
