ORIGEN DE REPLANTEO

The idea of Center for Art and Social Revitalization (CADS) is born as a result of the intention to create a new space for the city of exhibition and museum character, understood as a creative standpoint. The aim is not only a building that is container of different pieces of art, but offer a wider programme, and this was accomplished by expanding the range encompassing artistic creation. It is a living and changing space used for the creative, artistic training and participatory dialogue between the arts. Designed with the desire to contribute to the reflection on the contemporary sociocultural environment and with the aim to support the process of enriching the culture of the present and the future.

Travelling the Spanish coast we found the city of Barbate, a city that appears in greeks manuscripts from the V century. Its importance as a fishing port and its way of fishing tuna, the ´almadraba´, made it incredibly famous in the whole Mediterranean.Nowadays, Barbate is not able to consolidate a direct link with its seaport, keeping facing it and not making up as a historical element inside the city.Unexploited possibilities still exist that could become a source of wealth for the city, with a proper strategic direction. In this sense it could be a tourist site, offering a wide range of different rural and ecological tourism. In order to solve this situation, it is proposed a new port border be built that generates new public spaces for the city, and thanks to it, succeed in aracting people to the piers.

View of the modelRelation between the city and the harbour

Aerial view of the harbour

The tracing of the waves that go to the harbour define the shape of the intervention, either the furrow le by them on the sand or the soothing sound when breaking on the shore. This curved and organic shape of the waves will gradually transform into lineal dodges with many orientations and inclinations; variations that generate a more dynamic and enjoyable place. These contractions and dilations of the space create different sensations of walking under the wave. The permeability will be changed in some areas as well, permiting framed sights throughout it, or otherwise, an opaque element with the intention of framing the seafront.

Constructive section of the wall

Fishing Port entrance: It is the more direct point with the city. The project proposes that the new wall yields and moves back, so as it allows the city to come inside and generates a new transition space, the reception square.

Viewpoint: The new wall is not only a vertical element that divides the space into public and private, but it folds and rolls up itself to create a new communal place and new visions of the sea.

The project is based on respectful treatment with the path, backbone of the environment, reinterpreted in order to turn the ´way´into ´stay´giving importance to the builinding that already exists. To achieve greater synchrony with the environment, it seems logical to adapt it not only with the materials used, but with the shapes as well. The building is born from elemental forms that we can see along the way, such as lile barns called ´horreos´and hermitages of Romanesque style. It is an architecture which care with more about what happens inside than outside, where the building itself with its exterior solemnity, invites you to come indoors. The simplicity of the program allows the main body to break and cause a change between a first room for the meetings and common experiences and a second more personal and spiritual room, where the light intensity decreases as in the Romanesque chapels.

We are in front of Betis Street, in ´Triana´district, one of the most traditional and pintoresque places in Seville. It was traditionally a quarter of sailors, workers, poers and industrialists, famous for its bullfighters, flamenco singers and dancers. This is the premise that is used to define the project, using curved shapes combined with the shape of the envelope typical of flamenco dance, something that has always been closely related to Sevilla (in a global sense) and with Triana district (in a more local sense).Another value of this project we wanted to highlight was the Moorish character of great ´icons´ of the city of Seville such as the Cathedral, the Giralda or the Alcazar. We use different geometric paerns of exotic tiles, as well as basic geometric shapes like the triangle and the square for the creation of some elements of the project.

The structure was developed by dividing into several parts each of the curves, so that they would relate to each other by parallel lines. This helped to sustain the non-traffic areas. The peak created in the main facade, and the platform that would serve as lookout terrace are specially designed because of it complicated geometry.

This proposal aims to contribute to the transformation of a city and a country; plenty of renewal that encapsulates the Olympic spirit and so the position of Rio de Janeiro in the international panorama. The project, which must contain housing for 11.000 people, a five₋star hotel, a conventions center and commercial and offices areas, arises from a process of research and documentation to find the best way to solve the relationship between the environment and the requirements of the program, always seeking to unite the elements necessary for a creative intervention.

There are three main ideas to this proposal:First we are inspired by the exuberant nature of the city, extracting its organic shapes and colors, reaching a balance between architecture and environment seeking to enhance both the horizontal and vertical plans. The greenfield projects are proposing that the activities everywhere are always surrounded by green spaces with the typical site vegetation .Secondly, the spirit of Rio, welcoming, exciting, unique and contagious that represents the urban, social and communica-tion provided by buildings. Finally we have unity in diversity, ideas and cultures that the Brazilian people already have and that will be even stronger during the Olympic Games; as a key to create a dialogue between the buildings, looking for different ways to give to each building the right uses, always taking into account the best way to solve the program and offering quality of life and sustainability.

The convention center building looks for inspiration in the land and the dramatic topography of the city of Rio de Janeiro where it is full of green spaces. As with the forests surrounding the city, this building seeks to involve others in the area, inviting them to enter inside.

Nowadays the housing is an important issue that yet to be solved. Because of the economical crisis, to buy a new house as we understand it now, is an almost impossible task. This project carries out an exhaustive study of the actual lifestyle and the main requirements that are demanded by modern population. Aer that, a new way of understanding the house is proposed: The house as addition of different modules according to the family needings.

Architecture should be able to take the surrounding values. In such a landscape when the glaciars eroded the ground surface millions years ago, the project uses the depth of the fiords and the memories of icebergs floating in the past. This icerbergs work like a filter between the village and the tourism. Two different worlds, air and underwater, life and calm...everything returns to its origin. The program is designed to be funcional the entire year, wich can be used for fishing by the residents. Also the icebergs adapt its shape when there is less activity sinking a bit in order to be more related with the village.
