Corrosion Seminar May 17th, 6pm

The Port Royal Yacht Club will present a seminar on corrosion in the salt-water environment. This seminar will be held as part of the monthly pot-luck dinner at the club as is the first in a series of planned seminars on boating topics. The seminar will be held from 6 to 7pm with the potluck to be held immediately thereafter. Dave Sadler will be the guest speaker. Dave started working on pleasure boats in Marina Del Rey in 1975 as a diver. Since 1978 he has been self-employed in the marine field. His business (Renegade Marine) covers engine, electrical, me-chanical and other types of repairs as well as installation of Electro Guard corrosion control units and repair of corrosion systems. Dave will present the basic theory and practice on the subject, provide some tips on what steps you can take to reduce or prevent corrosion problems, and as time permits, open the floor for questions from the audience. If you have a boat in the harbor and have ques-tions about corrosion, zinc replacement frequency, bonding, and methods to reduce the problem, this seminar is for you. If you would like to read up on the subject before hand to enable you to ask some good questions, go to the RBBA web site at http://www.southbaynet.com/rbba/techtips.htm and click on Corrosion, Zincs, and Bonding. This is a very detailed treatment of the problem but is worthwhile spending the time to read. If you don’t want to read all that just come to the seminar, it will definitely be worth your time.

PRYC WILDERNESS ETHIC

ALWAYS LEAVE THE CLUB BETTER THAN YOU FOUND IT

THIS MEANS THAT IF YOU USE THE CLUB, LEAVE IT CLEANER THAN YOU FOUND IT. CLEAN YOUR OWN MESS UP AND SOME OF THE MESS LEFT BY THE LAST GUY. IF THERE ARE DIRTY DISHES IN THE SINK, CLEAN NOT ONLY YOUR OWN BUT A FEW OF THE ONES THAT WERE THERE WHEN YOU ARRIVED. IF THERE ARE DIRTY GLASSES LEFT ON THE TABLE, CLEAN AND PUT BACK NOT ONLY YOUR OWN BUT SOME OF THE ONES LEFT BY THE LAST GUY. THIS APPLIES TO POPCORN ON THE FLOOR, SCATTERED MAGAZINES, ETC. YOU GET THE IDEA. THE OBVIOUS BENEFIT IS A MORE PLEASANT ENVIRONMENT FOR EVERYONE WITHOUT THE SAME FEW MEMBERS ALWAYS HAVING TO DO THE CLEAN UP. EVERYBODY DOES THEIR SHARE AND A LITTLE MORE.
