• The government of the Netherlands will prohibit electricity production, generated by using coal from 2030 onwards. And the German government as from 2038
• 50% of the coal through the port of Rotterdam is burned by coal-fired power stations.
• Thermal coal has been hit by a combination of a lower demand for electricity and heat, and an increase in the share of gas, solar and wind in the energy mix.
• 85% of the coal handled in Rotterdam is destined for Germany. German energy coal imports fell by -45.2% (vs 1st half 2019).
