The Port of Oakland occupies over 20 miles on the mainland shore of San Francisco Bay, one of the finest natural harbors in the world. The port is a world-class international cargo transportation and distribution hub—a vital link between producers and consumers all over the world.
World Class. World Fast.
Location• Situated at the midpoint of
the U.S. West Coast, with a mega-market of more than eight million consumers, it’s only 4-10 hours away from major population centers in Seattle, Portland, Salt Lake City, Reno, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Phoenix.
• Intermodal rail and truck connections reach more than 50% of the U.S. population within two days.
Infrastructure• All shipping channels and
90% of berths dredged to -50 feet, accommodating vessels up to 13,000 TEU capacity.
• Intermodal rail with doublestack trains serve the port and link it to major markets in North America via two Class 1 railroads: Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Union Pacific. Four interstate freeways provide connections throughout California and the West.
Service• It’s the only port on the U.S.
West Coast in which all of the top 20 ocean carriers have regular service.
• Unlike some other U.S. West Coast ports, the Port of Oakland has no environmental, congestion or infrastructure fees in effect.

The Port of Oakland Advantage
Oakland offers the best combination of efficiency, service, infrastructure, network, and transit time to give exporters and importers a strong competitive advantage. Agricultural commod-ities, raw materials, and manufacturing and technology products move to Asia with the fastest West Coast transit times. First-call vessel services speed finished goods from Asia to the Port of Oakland, which serves a megaregion of more than 14 million con-sumers. Its ready infrastructure and rail network moves intermodal cargo to and from major markets in the Midwest and East Coast.
