Study Objectives

- Capitalize on the unique features of the Port Dalhousie Harbour (i.e. industrial waterfront setting views and access to the Harboursetting, views and access to the Harbour, heritage buildings, etc.)

- Create a destination within the Commercial Core.

- Provide a catalyst for future growth.

- Recommend new uses that are compatible with the historic village setting.

Encourage active, public use of the Harbour Area (i.e. active at-grade uses, buildings that frame open spaces).

Provide direct public access to the water’s edge, and encourage active uses (i.e. boating).

Consider alternative parking strategies to balance harbour activities and access.

An active, public frontage could provide a sense of arrival on Lakeport Road.

Buildings that frame open spaces promote safety and activity.

Direct access to the waterfront will encourage active use of the harbour area.

Alternative options for parking should be explored (i.e. flexible lots, undercroft parking).

Provide active, year-round open spaces (i.e. amphitheatre, skating rink).

Maintain and enhance existing trails and gwalkways.

Beautify and enhance Lockhart Point andthe Lock Gardens.

Open space uses that enhance lookouts to the harbour and connections to the marina.

Open spaces should encourage public activity throughout the year.

Existing open spaces (i.e. Lockhart Point, Lock Gardens) should be maintained and enhanced.

Spaces between buildings should become active pedestrian destinations.
