Currently, Teen Wolf is in the middle of it’s fifth season, so if you seem interested and are looking for a new “keeps you on the edge of your seat” TV series that is the Apex Alpha of supernatural TV series, then go find the first four seasons and binge watch until your heart’s content. Netflix Raises Their PricesEmma RedmondColumnist

Over 33 million people watch Netflix in the U.S. alone. Many students watch it as a stress reliever because of the stacks of homework they get every night. When Netflix announced that they were raising their prices by a dollar, it made all of those people panic. “I can’t stop in the middle of an episode” “Now I’ll never know if Toby dies” “I CAN’T LIVE A DAY WITHOUT GREY’S!” are just a few of the thoughts that went through my mind. But now I’ll have to pick up a hobby like knitting or fish-ing. Maybe I can go to prison and hunt down the characters from Orange is the New Black. I don’t know, but I do know that Netflix is my life and I won’t live with-out it.

Ask A panther Lexi Vitale & Taylor CuffColumnists PB Takes New York City

Anna Vincent &Sophie RedmondColumnists

Have you ever been to the Big Apple? Well, on October 7th, the music and art programs took a trip there. After both departments endured the 6 hour bus ride, they reached Times Square and went their separate ways. The music department went to Broadway to see the production of Finding Neverland. Even though Matthew Mor-rison from the hit show Glee wasn’t able to perform, his understudy filled in, and it was still by all means an amazing performance. While the music department was watching Finding Neverland, the art pro-gram was strolling through the halls of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and sketching out the animals that inhabit the Bronx zoo. After their journeys through New York, both groups met up at “Buca di Beppo” for an old fashioned Italian meal, which ended with a straw-berry cheesecake. This trip is one that will be remembered for many years.

Question: What is the best one liner you have ever got-ten from Mr. Bastian?

“With hard work and a little luck, you too can be like me.”

“Choke quieter!”

“Welcome to English, it’s more rock and roll than rocket science.”

“If you don’t buy into, don’t try to sell it.”

“Somewhere out there I have the feeling someone is using the bathroom irresponsibly.”

Brittany Westover referred to as “Westy.”

“Wicked smaaaaaat.” (smart)

Turn 4 A Cure: Cancer WalkKaitlyn SevillaSenior Columnist

Abbey VincentColumnistMontezuma Aqueduct 5K

Last Fall, I, along with Katherine Sumner, was lucky enough to be chosen as a student coordinator of the Montezuma Aqueduct 5K Run/Walk. Over the past year, the committee has had several meetings, where we planned and organized the race and all the events supplemental to it. Katherine and I were specifically in charge of organizing the Kid’s Fun Run, doing some advertising, and getting high school volunteers for the day of the race. We collected games such as Kan-Jam and cornhole for the com-munity to play, set up a face painting booth, and even had a bounce house! We had several eager and helpful volunteers from our very own high school. Several of them stood at various spots throughout the trail, encour-aging the racers. Others worked on registration and in concession stands. A huge thanks goes out to them for helping us out that day! Katherine and I met some amazing people through this experience. Everyone who was involved showed passion for their community and an overall optimistic outlook on the entire event. We loved working beside them to help create such an amazing event for the community to enjoy. Katherine and I each received a scholarship through this opportunity, something that I’ll always be grateful for, but the scholarship wasn’t the only thing that I took away from this experience. I learned responsibility, organizational skills, and the value of community ser-vice. A huge thanks goes to everyone on the committee. I am very grateful for this opportunity; it is surely one that I will never forget!

This summer, Lindsey Sroka and her family had the idea to host a breast cancer fundraiser during Breast Cancer Month. They teamed up with All Ways Concrete Pumping and Repair Plus to host a Breast Cancer walk at the Weedsport Speedway on Saturday, October 24. We decided to interview Lindsey and find out more about it!

Q: How is your family personally connected to this walk?A: My mom had breast cancer when I was in the 7th grade. As a survi-vor, she wanted to help people who are going through the same thing she went through, so our family decided to organize this event.

Q:How many people do you expect to participate in this event?A: We hope to see 1,000 people there on Saturday.

Q:How long is this walk going to be?A: It should take about 40 minutes. The walk starts at the Speedway, then goes through the town of Weedsport and ends back at the Speedway.

Come out and show your support by walking in the “Turn 4 a Cure” Saturday, October 24th. The walk starts at 10 a.m. and registra-tion is at 9 a.m. There is a registration fee of $25. The proceeds of this event will be going to support the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund. All walkers are welcome!

Fingerlakes Mall Jessi Menotti Columnist Senior NightKatie Locastro

Senior Columnist

This year marks a milestone for the Fingerlakes Mall. Last April was the 35th anniversary of the mall’s opening. Unfortunately, the mall has reached the lowest point in its history. This year, the Fingerlakes Mall has had its lowest occupancy rates ever. There are many reasons for this decrease. With the rise in online shopping, less people are going to malls to shop. It is difficult for malls to compete with the comforts of shopping at home. Along with the decrease in foot traffic, the management had to raise taxes on businesses in the mall. These taxes were too high for the stores, so they didn’t reach lease agreements. This caused a great number of stores to leave the mall. These stores included REX electronics, K•B Toys, PacSun, Littman Jewelers, Aeropostale, Hallmark, and Bath and Body Works. Sears also had to leave, but that was a company problem, and not the fault of the mall. Just last week, the mall had more depressing news to deliver. Jo-Ann Fabrics announced that they too will be leaving the mall. As one of the last few remaining stores, this was bad news. All eyes are on Bass Pro Shops, be-cause they are the main force in keeping the Fingerlakes Mall alive. Still, the management is determined to keep the mall up and run-ning. They host concerts and birth-day parties in an effort to bring in more people. This is also a good time of year for them, because Spirit, the halloween store, is back open. Hopefully, the Fingerlakes Mall will be able to continue on for 35 more years.

Each year, seniors from every sport gather at their last home game to celebrate their senior night. Some teams write speeches about each other and others get announced with parents. No matter how a team celebrates this day, it is a bittersweet moment for the players, coaches, and parents. This year, cross country, field hockey, football, and cheerleading all celebrated senior night in their own ways.

Cross Country: Both the boys and the girls cross country teams went into se-nior night undefeated. The seniors this year were Jordan Anthony, Zach Balog, Matt Conner, Justin Janes, Kieran Hermann, and Madelyn Romeo. Both the boys and the girls cross country teams had their own senior night ceremonies before starting their races. The race of 3.1 miles began and the runners took off. Both teams faced off against Bishop Grimes and Manlius Pebble Hill in a hard race to the finish. The boys won against both teams 15-50 with Janes coming in second, Anthony coming in third, Ben York coming in seventh, and Hermann coming in ninth. The girls took victories over both teams as well winning 15-50 against Grimes and 20-38 against Pebble Hill. Both teams finish 7-0 with an amazing undefeated season.

Field Hockey: This year, varsity field hockey had their senior night in the gym. Parents and family members gath-ered and listened to speeches about each senior. Underclassmen work very hard on these speeches and really try to make them heartfelt. After spending years with the same girls, speeches get very emotional. This year’s field hockey seniors were Carrie Martens, Brit-tany Westover, Katie Locastro, and Maddie Jorolemon. After the sappy speeches were over, the field hockey girls took on rival Weedsport. About 10 minutes in, Port Byron girls had a quick hit from Katie Locastro to Lexi Vitale. Not too long after Jenna Weston had another goal. At halftime the score was 2-0. After the half, Weedsport had two quick hits and the game was tied. With 9.6 seconds remaining, a corner was called but a strike of lightning hit and the game was delayed for a half an hour. When the delay was over, the teams came back out and went into overtime. Unfortunately the Warriors scored with about six minutes left in overtime and the Panthers lost. Although they fell short, the Panthers fought hard as a team until the end. The varsity field hockey girls end with a 9-6-1 seasonal record.

Football/Cheerleading: Varsity football boys and the football cheerleaders celebrate senior night together. First the cheerleaders are called out with their parents. They walk onto the field and hand their moms a flower and each is recognized while their favorite cheerleading memory is announced. There were six seniors this year including Amanda Wilczek, Rebecca Murray, Ashley Stephens, Samantha Mahunik, Kim Bell, and Brooke Dixon. Next, the football boys do the same. They get announced and walk onto the field with a flower for their mom and their favorite memory gets announced. Each team forms a close bond with their teammates which makes senior night tough. This year’s senior boys were Matt Chuttey, Sean Walsh, Dan Clack, Tommy Vitale, Alexander Morgenthaler, Jack Stevens, and Jordan Cusick. The boys played APW (Altmar-Parish-Williamstown). The boys faced a hard loss but never gave up and fought hard until the end. The boys end their season 0-7 but will continue to rebuild their team for the years to come.

DIY Halloween CostumesMolly & Emily RyanColumnists

Halloween is coming up quickly. Do you want a costume that no one else will have? Something fun and crafty? Then you should think about DIYing your costume this Halloween.

In the mood for something a little craftier, or with more of a WOW-factor? Light up the night with a jellyfish cos-tume.What you need: A clear umbrella, streamers, battery pow-ered string lights, and white clothing Directions: Hang streamers down from each section of your umbrella that almost reach the ground. Next, tape or glue the lights inside the top of your umbrella, they will shine through. Lastly, put on your white outfit and hold your umbrella over your head!Bonus: This costume is great for outdoor events, whatever the weather turns out to be! If it starts to rain, I guarantee

everyone will be jelly of your water resistant get-up.

Want a costume that you can make with items you already own? Be a burglar, you’ll look so good it’s illegal. What you need: A black and white striped shirt, black pants, black hat or ski mask, black gloves, and a bag with a dollar sign on it.Directions: You may need to draw a dollar sign to create your makeshift moneybag, but other than that just put on your attire and you are good to go! A great costume that didn’t break the bank (or needed you to rob one).

Want something simple? Try out the M&M, you’ll look good enough to eat. What you need: A solid color shirt and an iron-on letter M. Directions: Simply iron on the “M” and voila! You have yourself a cheap, quick, easy, and delicious cos-tume.Bonus: If you hand out actual M&Ms to passersby, your costume will definitely become a favorite.

Want to do a group costume with a few of your friends? Be the classic Rock-Paper-Scissors game! What you need: The rock will need two gray poster boards (or any color and gray paint) and some string. The paper will need two white poster boards, markers, and string. The scissors will need two poster boards, string, and gray and red paint.Directions: The rock needs to paint its poster boards (if necessary), cut them into two rock shapes, and attach two strings parallel to each other with one end of each at-tached to each poster board. The rock should also wear gray clothing to really sell it. The paper needs to draw blue and red lines and black holes resembling notebook paper (so ev-eryone will know exactly what the costume is), then do the same thing the rock did with the string. The scissors have it a little trickier. The scissors will need to cut out two scissor shapes, paint the blades gray and the handles red, then do the same with the string as the other two costumes.

If you and your squad roll up in these fun costumes you will definitely rock the party scene, covering the competition with your sharp outfits. There are DIY costume options for every level that differ in time, effort, and cost. If none of these costumes spark your interest, check out Pinterest.com for more costume ideas! Halloween is a fun holiday, take advantage of the opportunity to dress up as something other than yourself for a night. Happy Halloween PB!
