DESCRIPTION

My Dark Heresy campaign revolving around Tyranids and the Inquisition

TRANSCRIPT

Your Lord and Master, Inquisitor Azarach of the Ordo Xenos, has been contacted by an old friend, General Harrington. He informs Inquisitor Azarach that an increase in Space Hulk traffic, coupled with a rash of bloody attacks on frontier worlds across the sub-sector might be evidence of Xenos infiltration, the swarms of the Great Devourer. If these incidents are, indeed, linked to the Tyrannid threat, the greatest possible precautions must be taken.

The Party, as a hardened team of Azarach's most trusted acolytes, is dispatched to some of these frontier planets to investigate the sights of these massacres, interview survivors, and generally ascertain the situation, and report back to the Inquisitor.

A small farming community will be completely devoid of animal life, with no signs of a struggle save for unmade beds, a few small-calibre bullet holes in the walls/doors of a few residences, and a large, very difficult to find, unmarked grave several weeks old, the stench unbearable, the meat still rotting, and the bones showing signs of slashing and cutting.

A PDF listening outpost 25 km from the only starport on the otherwise desolate planet, used primarily as a transshipment point, with no other permanent settlements on the planet, it's natives being tribal wanderers who trade rare spices and drug compounds for tech with the Offworlders at the Halls of Steel (starport.) The outpost is listed as having a 20 man detachment, with small arms, ammunition and food for tours of duty lasting up to 6 months. The outpost is torn to shreds, old blood stains the walls, bullet casings and spent lasgun cartridges litter the area, with signs of forced (and attempted) EXIT at all entrances, even on the 2nd and 3rd floors. No bodies are found, just scraps of cloth and bits of bone. Diary logs show that a patrol discovered a strange meteoric object that appeared to have frozen upon impact in one of the shallow pools that dot the moors sporadically. Said object described as an oblong sphere, with an appearance both fleshy and rock-like. The Patrol under Corporal Davos brought it back and placed it in the upstairs holding cell, in hopes of bartering it to an offworld ship captain, who sometimes offer rewards for such oddities. This information is pieced together from a rather more circumspect Official Log, and the personal diary of Corporal Davos, which ends mid-sentence. The long entry is a couple of months old. Unusually, the natives haven't stripped the abandoned outpost bare, but have surrounded it with totems and the like, which (if you can find out from them, or knowledge-test imperial lore or something) are to ward off the return of evil spirits. It is evident that the PDF fled from the building and tried to barricade whatever it was inside. The overwhelming majority of bullet impacts and battlefield debris indicate that they fled the building, surrounded it and futilely tried to contain the mysterious entity. Just as evidently, they failed.

A village on a fledgling frontier world, home to some thousand-odd souls. Disappearances keep occurring, hunting parties track the culprits into the hills, and then lose them or are themselves lost-overtaken and presumed destroyed, though sometimes dazed survivors are found wandering the hills, confused and suffering from exposure and memory loss, with no recollection of what happened. A strange psychic miasma of unease can be felt here, growing stronger the further into the hills you go. The local priest says that disaster looms over them all, and that only reverence of the God Emperor can stay the tide of destruction.
