Pond Habitats Read and FindA pond can be man-made or natural. Lots of plants and animals live in and around ponds. Some plants, such as water lilies and bulrushes, grow in the water. Others, such as irises and marsh marigolds, grow in the damp soil around the pond’s edge.
These plants give food and shelter to small creatures like worms, slugs, snails, dragonflies and water beetles. Amphibians, such as frogs and toads, then eat these small creatures.
Many birds also live near ponds. Have you ever seen any of these birds?
