Pompeii was discovered a long time ago by the Oscan people of central Italy. It was founded by the Oscan's in seventh century B.C. The Oscan's are named after the goddess Ops.

Pompeii has about 10,000 people, and the people were bakers, and farmers. The farmers farmed on Vesuvius with no fear because it hadn’t erupted in hundreds of years.

In A.D. 62 a huge earthquake struck and the impact was enormous! It also destroyed the water supply but with some Roman help they fixed the water supply.

In Pompeii they watched gladiators fight to the death in the Amphitheater. The people of Pompeii were artists and painted many portraits and drawings.

The name of the volcano that erupted is Vesuvius a very powerful volcano. Vesuvius let out a poisonous gas that killed all of the people of Pompeii then were buried under cinder.

Most of Pompeii's streets and buildings including temples, theatres, shops, and homes have been found. When the archeologists discovered the ruins experts and scientists have a new understanding of Rome.
