Key events… Vision Conference 07 Oct (1400-1630hrs)

Time for the Sub-Themes (ST) to share with everyone else their findings – subtheme vision for 2010

Presentations would be centered around their vision in their respective Sub-Themes.

Explore skits, performances, etc @ 20 mins each subtheme. (Avoid DBP – death by powerpoint!!)

Convey findings in the Sub-Themes. (Hint: Parts A to C)

Aim is to get as much of the 75 students in the subtheme involved as possible in terms of roles.

Key events… Vision Conference 07 Oct (1400-1630hrs) PRIZES/TOKENS - There will be prizes for:Best Vision Conference Item : 75 prizes (for

entire sub-theme)

We need help…Vision Conference Organizing Team: 2 for each

sub-theme (total of 8 from all 4 subthemes will be the main organization committee)

They are encouraged to recruit helpers from their own subtheme to help them carry out their duties.

Final Presenter: 1 from each sub-theme (There will be 5 presenters to represent 5 polys so 1 ST will have 2 delegates selected) (Names to be put forth by your facilitators.)

Administration details Please check with your individual polytechnic representatives

with regards to transport arrangements to Pulai Springs. Please check your Facebook account regularly for updates from

your Facilitators. Do note that delegates will report to their respective poly to

register on 5 Oct ( time as instructed by their poly rep in Org Committee), in their subtheme T shirt, luggage . All delegates must arrive at P Spring by 10.30am.

Rooming arrangements handled by TP Reps will be by sub theme/same floor , only same gender in the same apartment and details announced at P Springs, during check in time.

Do manage expectations - no delegates are to leave the Resort for any other purposes at all.

Please do ensure that you have a few laptops to work on (for your presentation slides). Arrange within your classes.

heydays. Where are they today? (e.g. Burma, Sri Lanka) What has happened to them? How did leadership play a part in this?

what is required for leaders in 2030?What happens when the scenario becomes something

which we are foreign to? (Such as total darkness where we need to be guided by the visually challenged?)

Do we have mechanisms that can produce alternative types of leaderships if our landscape changes drastically? (Total destruction of the environment or collapse of economy?)

If the scenario of the world changes, are we willing to accept people whom we perceive as our “inferiors” to lead us?

Panel Discussion - Leaders in SocietySituational leadership? Think Jane Lee! Qualities / Values of a leader - Are these values

identical to those you found in the World café session? If no, how are these qualities different? Are they equally important?

Leadership through the generations – think Eunice Tay, Tan Kin Lian vs. Lionel Yeo and Jane Lee

Should leadership styles to be applied to people as a generation or individuals? Think Lionel Yeo vs. Jane Lee.

How can we circumvent the problem of generation differences and come up with common values?

Dinner with the IRO MembersCo-relation between Religious harmony and economic

development? Role of leaders to bring this about.E.g. Nigeria – rich in natural resources but not as successful

as Singapore (no natural oil resources) Why is this so?

Understanding your own religion to understand others (Mr Harbans Singh, Rev. Lam and Ustaz Shaik Hussain) How relevant is this when it comes to leading people?

Ven. Gunaratana’s example of Sri Lanka (Tamils vs. Sinhalese) What were the leaders of the country trying to do there?

Sister Theresa – first woman president of IRO (what qualities did she need to do her job?)

Rev. Master Lee and Master Tan – talked about Man’s ability to bring about both good and destruction. Can you think of a real life example where a leader who tried to do good ended up doing more harm?

In specific…Focus Areas for Leaders Subtheme for PF2010:

New Leadership  By 2030, what would be some of the local and global challenges faced by

Singapore?  How do you propose to tackle these challenges? What more needs to be done so that the youth of today will have what it

takes to face these challenges head on in 2030?

Engaging the People  Who are the “people” of Singapore in 2030? Which leaders do you think would have a greater influence on the people

and why? What key principles do future leaders need to bear in mind to ensure a

peaceful and prosperous Singapore in 2030?

Managing Unity in Diversity  With the increasing mix of cultures, races, religions and languages

in Singapore, how can the government ensure that all segments of society will still have a ‘voice’ in 2030?

Are there any segments of society being marginalized in today’s society? Discuss why this is dangerous and ways in which they can be made to feel a part of society.

In short…Gain insight into qualities good leaders

should posses; what is required for a leader in 2030.

 Dissect if the present system in Singapore will be able to continue producing good leaders for the future.

Identify gaps in the present system in Singapore which need to be addressed to produce good leaders for the future.
