Political Speeches Research:

• I looked at different movies and focused on mainly the political speeches within these movies.

• By looking at these speeches’ I believe it will benefit myself when my group and I will begin to write the dialogue for our trailer, as during the trailer we will be filming a scene on a political speech.

•Although each of the films speeches will differ in what subjects and issues they are talking about it helped myself gather a lot of information about how movie speeches are written and also how they are filmed.

•. I have taken screen shots of all the different movies to look at how they filmed these speeches.

•Also by taken screen shots I can see what props and costumes these movies used when filming these scenes.

Olympus Has Fallen:

•This speech was giving at the end of the film: It starts by the President talking about friends, family and heroes. Extract from the speech:

•“Our foe did not come only to destroy our things they came to desecrate our way of life, fowl our beliefs, trample our freedom. In this not only did they fail, they granted us the greatest gift, a chance at our rebirth. We will rise, stronger and united this is our time our chance to get back to the best of who we are. Lead by example with the dignity, integrity and honor that built this country and which will build it once again. May god bless you all and bless the united sates of America. “

•The speech includes a lot of positive words such as rise, stronger, united.

•It gives people confidence about the future.

•Makes people feel safer. Mentions freedom and beliefs.

•All of these words should be included in our speech so that it seems realistic.

• This is a long shot demonstrating to the audience that the President is making a speech.

•From this shot you can see that he is making the speech in front of many individuals.

• From this low angle shot. It makes us feel he has a lot of power in this scene as everyone is focused on him and is listening to what he is saying. • From this shot we can see he is wearing a black suit with a bright red tie and a small American flag badge.

• This shot was taken from behind the character. To reveal to the audience all the journalists and new reporters filming the character.

• The news reporters are mainly wearing suits with ties and the women reporters wearing smart dress suits.

• This shot reveals a prop which is a red velvet rope with with gold stands.

• Also this low angle shot shows multiple characters standing on the side of the stage waiting for the president. When we film our political speech we will be placing some of our actors at the side of the stage. So we could include a shot such as this.

The Campaign: • The Campaign is a politically based movie.

• However our genre is an action thriller which is the opposite of this movie as ‘The Campaign’ is a comedy.

• Nevertheless this movie had several different political speeches and I believe by looking at these speeches it could help my group and I when we write our political speech.

•Extract from the speech: That’s a great question. Thank you for asking it .It’s the first thing I think of when I wake up in the morning and the last thing I think of when I go to bed. Jobs in North Carolina mean what? A strong North Carolina and a strong North Carolina means a strong America and that my friends is how we are going to do it.

• We could include a reporter and let them ask our actor a question. We did not think of this when planning our political speech however this could good be a good idea.

•This is a high angle shot of the stage that the speeches were being made on.

•My group and I are filming in our school hall for our political speech scene.

•This high angle shot works well. In the location we are filming we have balcony were we could film parts of the speech.

• This is another screen shot. It’s a two shot of both the candidates running for election.

• This shot reveals to use the costumes both men are wearing which is smart suits with ties. Both of the men are wearing an American flag badge. This film reinforces the idea that it looks professional when the actors are wearing smartly dressed clothing.

• Behind them is two American fags.

• This is a screen shot from another speech in the movie. From this shot you can see that the candidate has two men behind him.

• Also when he is making the speech there is several different microphones.

•During another speech. There is an over the shoulder shot. This works well as we can see the candidates facial expressions.

• I think when filming our political speech we will film an over the shoulder shot of Jack watching the political leader of the City Corporation Party.

• The American President is a 1995 romantic comedy drama film. During the film Michael Douglas delivers a speech.

• An extract from the speech:

•We have serious problems to solve, and we need serous problems to solve them.

•Promises everyone that the other candidate will not solve their problems but instead is interested in two things. Making people affair and telling people who is to blame for these problems. “ That ladies and gentlemen is how you will elections” Family, American values and character. Fight to reverse the effects of global warming. My name is Andrew Sheppard and I am the president.

• Uses words such as family, values and character. These words will draw people in.

• Scared them by stating that there are serious problems.

The American President:

•This is establishing shot of the location of the scene. From the shot you can tell it is an important speech as there are many reporters and cameras.

•At first we thought we would have supporters listening to the speech but it might work better if we film the speech and film the reporters.

• This is a point of view shot. It works well as we can see all of the reporters through the speakers point of view. It also reveal how there are a lot of people there.

• These are two screen shots of the speech made by Michael Douglas as he played the President.

• They are both close ups and reveals to the audience a number of things.

• The first is his clothing it shows that he is very well presented as he is wearing a smart suit with a tie but also he is shaven and his hair has been combed back.

•From this we have to make sure that our actor is wearing a suit and tie so that he looks smart, intelligent and sophisticated.

•The second is that while he is making his speech he is using his hands to show how he is passionate about he issues he is talking about.
