Political partiesA political party is a
group of people who come together to contest
electionand hold power in
the government. They
agree on some policies and programmes for the
society with a view to
promotethe collective good.
Types of Political PartiesThere are three types of political parties :1.One party system 2.Two party system3. Multi party system 4. Dominant-party system5. Non-partisan system
1) ONE PARTY SYSTEMOne party system is a system in which a single political party has the right to form the government, usually based on the existing constitution. Examples of this are the people’s republic of china under the united front , or the national front in former east Germany.
2)Two party system Two party system is a system where
two major political parties dominate politics within a government.
For example in the United States, Jamaica and Malta the sense of two party system describes an arrangement in which nearly all elected officials belong to one of the two major parties, and third parties rarely win any seats in the legislature.
3)Multi party system Multi party system is a system in which multiple political parties have the capacity to gain control of government offices, separately or in coalition. It reflects the various minority arguments on an issue, the multiparty system tends to divide the people into many different factions, that the majority is completely lost, leaving only a set of competing minorities. In the vest majority of
multiparty system, numerous major and minor political parties hold a serious chance of receiving office, and because they all compete, a majority may not control the legislature, forcing the creation of a coalition. Brazil, Denmark, Finland, India, Mexico, Spain, Norway, Sri lanka etc are the examples of nations that have used a multi party system effectively in their democracies.
4)Dominant party system Dominant party system is a system where there is “a category of parties/political organizations that have successively won election victories and whose future defeat cannot be envisaged or is unlikely for the foreseeable future”. For example Kuomintang in the Republic of china ,African National Congress in South Africa etc.
5)NON PARTISAN SYSTEM Non partisan system is a system of government or organizations such that universal and periodic elections take place without reference to political parties. There are two types of Non partisan government –De factoDe jure
Three national parties Three national parties are –Aam aadami party(AAP)Bharatiya janata party(BJP)Indian national congress(INC)
AAM AADMI PARTYAAP is an Indian political party formally launched on 26 Nov 2012 and is currently the ruling party of Delhi. It came into existence following differences between the activists Arvind Kejriwal and Aana Hazara regarding whether or not to politicise the popular India against corruption movement that had been demanding a Jan lok pal bill since 2011.
Hazare preferred that the movement should remain politically unaligned while Kajriwal felt the failure of the agitation route necessitated a direct political involvement.
BHARATIYA JANATA PARTYBJP is one of the two major parties in the Indian political system along with Indian national congress. As of 2015 it is the countries largest political party in terms of representation in the national parliament and the state assembly, and it is the world largest party in terms of primary membership.
