of global population)

• Wild type 2 poliovirus last detected in 1999

• Wild type 3 poliovirus last found in November 2012 (more

than 2 years ago)

• African continent almost 10 months without detection of

any wild poliovirus

• Only Afghanistan and Pakistan have reported wild type 1

poliovirus in 2015

• Mainstreaming essential polio functions

(such as surveillance) to maintain a polio

free world

• Sharing knowledge and lessons learned

• Transitioning assests: people, physical

assets, etc., to other health priorities.

Legacy planning aims to ensure that investments made

to eradicate polio contribute to future health goals.
