Admissions Procedures

All students wishing to enroll in the Lotus School must follow identical procedures applicable to any of the programs they wish to pursue. Prospective students must tour the facility and have and interview with a school representative. The prospective student must wait at least 24 hours before submitting an application for admission after the tour. An application form must be competed and accompanied by a $100.00 registration fee, a brief written statement as to why the student wishes to pursue a career in his or her desired program of study, proof of high school diploma or equivalent, copy of prospective student’s identification, as well as any other prerequisites for their respective program.

In the rare event the student does not have a copy of their high school diploma due to uncontrollable events the student may take an exam that is recognized as equivalent to a high school graduate and have the passing scores sent directly to the school. The prospective student must also explain in detail as to why the original diploma is not available.

If the prospective student wishes to use a college diploma, the diploma or transcripts must indicate graduating from an associates program or higher from an accredited college.

If the prospective student received their high school training in another country the prospective student must present the school with a certified translation as well as a certification that the training is equivalent to that of a high school graduate in the United States of America.

6

The admissions representative will evaluate the submitted information and determine if the student meets the requirements for admission. Students may enroll in a program if they meet all the requirements up to the first day of class. Once a student has met the admissions requirements and is accepted into a program the student will sign an enrollment agreement and arrange to pay; a deposit, one month’s tuition; the full tuition; or provide proof of funding by a third party agency which will pay the school directly.

All acceptances are processed based on a first come, first served and space available basis. Once the Lotus School’s enrollment for classes is at capacity, accepted students will be placed on a waiting list for admissions.

Lotus School will provide reasonable assistance to students seeking credit approval for student loans after such students are formally enrolled in the Program.

Grading System

The grading system is based on the following scale:

90 – 100 = A80 – 89 = B70 – 79 = C65 – 69 = D

64 and Below = F

The scale compares to the customary scale of an A equaling a 4.0.

Policy On Tardiness

Whenever a student arrives more than 5 minutes late to class or leaves before the instructor has dismissed the class that student will be deemed to be tardy for that class period unless they fall under the guidelines for the absence time frame of 15 minutes early or late.

Policy On Expulsion

The Director of Education has the authority to dismiss any student from the program for good cause or to place a student on probation subject to conditions the Director, and is solely within his discretion. However, in any event, good cause shall include but not be limited to any of the following:

A material breach of the policy on conduct set forth in this catalog; An instance of “prohibited conduct” as set forth in the policy on conduct; Failure by the student to meet his/her obligations as set forth under the enrollment

agreement; Violation of attendance policy as set forth in the policy on attendance;

7

Conduct which is or has the potential to be damaging to the reputation or image of the program or to the Lotus School clinic;

Unprofessional, disorderly or disruptive conduct; Violation of honor policy, and Failure to meet financial obligations.

Honor Policy

Students are expected to do their own work. Students should not look at/copy from any other student’s work. Assignments given by an instructor are to be completed by the student given the assignment. Test materials are not to be taken from the school or copied in any form. It will be up to the Director of Education to decide the punishment for breaking the honor policy which may include expulsion.

Policy On Satisfactory Progress

Students must have at least a D (65) aggregate score at the end of the first quarter. The students must have a D+ (68) aggregate score by the end of the second quarter. Students must have a C (70) aggregate score by the end of the program.

Any student who falls below this level of performance will be placed on probation for the next section, having been advised of this in writing. At the end of the next section if the student has not met the level of performance required then the student will be dismissed. The student will be allowed to reapply for admission to the Lotus School at the beginning of the next session as a prospective new student.

The student must complete the program requirements in no more than (3) three-months after the last scheduled day of class. The student is assigned a grade of incomplete until all requirements have been completed within the 90 day time frame. If the student does not complete the requirements within that three-month time frame he or she will not be issued a certificate of completion and the incomplete grade becomes permanent. A student who fails to meet all of the requirements but wants to earn a certificate of completion must re-enroll and restart the program as a new student.

If a student withdraws from the program, an “Incomplete” will be given for the overall grade; therefore, the satisfactory progress policy no longer applies. All other students will be required to follow the policy on make-up work.

Methods and Terms for Tuition Payment, Fees and Required Costs

The Student options for the Lotus School tuition fee include the following: Payment in full upon execution of Enrollment Agreement. Payments in monthly installments that shall be due on the first day of each month for

the duration of that particular program (8 months for day classes, 10 months for night classes). If any monthly installment is paid on or after the 6th day of the month, the Student will incur a late fee of $50.00 for that month.

Student Loan amortized over 24 month period @ 6% interest Student Loan compounding balances from different programs over an agreed upon

time length. Students may have a third party payer pay the student’s tuition directly to Lotus

School.

Student Transfer Policy

Lotus School will consider transfer requests only from students seeking transfer from established schools operating under the authority of the jurisdiction the school is located in. In any event, Lotus School will normally accept no more than 175 hours of completed education from another school in the appropriate categories which are 100 hours of massage and 75 hours of Anatomy toward completion of the Program.

However, such students should realize that exercising this option to transfer hours from one massage therapy school to another may have implications for the following:

The students eligibility to sit for a Commonwealth of VA Board Licensing Exam; Satisfying Virginia’s state licensing requirements or the state licensing or certification

requirements for other states; or Satisfying any specific jurisdictional requirements of the locality in which they intend

to practice.

It is the student’s sole responsibility to communicate directly with the Commonwealth of VA Board Licensing Exam officials and any appropriate state agencies and/or local jurisdictions regarding such implications.

Any student wishing to transfer from another massage training program to the Lotus School must submit a completed application, pay the required registration fee of $100.00, submit in writing his/her reason for wanting to transfer and have a personal interview with a representative of the program.

Prospective transfer students must arrange to have their transcripts sent directly to the Lotus School from the transferring school. An official transcript must confirm that the student has

23

completed at least 75 hours of anatomy, pathology, kinesiology and physiology, and at least 100 hours of massage theory and practice, from a school recognized by the jurisdiction the school is operating in, with at least a 65% average in anatomy, pathology, kinesiology and physiology and at least a 70% average in massage theory and practice. The prospective student must also present the director of education with a course outline and/or school catalogue from the school they received training from outlining their curriculum.

The Director shall evaluate each request for transfer in terms of its compliance with the criteria specified above and shall determine, in his sole discretion if the previous educations education is comparable to the education offered at the Lotus School, the age of the prior schooling is taken into account as well, the legitimacy of the previous school, and then a determination will be made based on the information provided as to approve or deny the request. Prospective transfer students whose requests are approved, and who are accepted for admission to the program, shall be admitted on a first-come, first-served, space-available basis. If or when the Lotus School’s current classes reach capacity, accepted transfer students will be placed on a waiting list for admission.

Transfer students who have been formally approved for admission must enroll in the school by signing the enrollment agreement, and pay one month’s tuition or a) pay the full amount or, b) apply for an installment loan over a 24 month period, or c) arrange for a third party to pay the school directly. The school will provide the requisite assistance for students needing credit and attendance verification for compliance with student loan programs or third party payers.

Tuition for transfer students is calculated by subtracting the number of hours accepted for transfer from the 600 hours required for graduation and multiplying the result by the hourly tuition rate at the time of transfer. The monthly installment is determined by whether students attend the day or evening classes since the length of the massage program is seven (7), nine (9), or ten (10) months depending upon the session chosen. Therefore, a monthly tuition installment is the tuition amount calculated then divided by the pertinent number of months of attendance.

Transfer students who have matriculated will be placed in an ongoing class. The Lotus School will notify such students of the date and time at which they should begin attending classes, which will be the point at which the class in which they have been placed has completed the number of hours of anatomy, pathology, kinesiology and physiology and massage theory and practice that, in Lotus School’s discretion, best reflects the transfer students’ skill and knowledge levels to that date.

Transfer students will be required to take all exams, quizzes, and the final examination administered by the School from the point at which they are scheduled to begin attending classes. Transfer students are required to purchase all textbooks used by the program. If students possess the current edition of a particular textbook being used at Lotus School, students may use that text. Substitution of textbooks for the current edition being used in the program will be permitted only with the approval of the School’s Director.

24

Transfer students who meet all applicable requirements for completion from the program and who complete the program in good standing (including the payment of all required fees) will receive a certificate of completion from the Lotus School. However, their transcripts will reflect the number and type of hours accepted by the Lotus School from the previous massage school, and the number and type of hours they received as a student of the Lotus School.

Students who are currently enrolled and in good standing at the Lotus School at the discretion of the Director of Education may request to be transferred into another program at the Lotus School If students transfer, they will be expected to follow all policies and procedures and requirements as they apply to that ongoing class. If the transfer is approved the student will receive credit for coursework completed and monies paid toward tuition. If the students transfer is approved the student will be responsible for paying the amount of the tuition of the class transferred into.

Students who wish to transfer credits or coursework to another school is at the sole discretion of the receiving school which credits and coursework earned at the Lotus School of Integrated Professions, Inc. will be accepted.

Pre-Admission Placement Tests

For prospective students who have earned a degree with extensive study in anatomy, physiology, pathology and kinesiology, the Lotus School offers the option for them to “test out” of the training to be provided by the School if they reasonably believe that the latter will duplicate the education they have already received. However, such students should realize that exercising this option to “test out” of class hours within the context of the 600 hour massage therapy training program could have implications for eligibility to become licensed by the Virginia State Board of Nursing, or the state licensing or certification requirements for other states, and to satisfy any specific jurisdictional requirements of the locality in which they intend to practice. It is the students’ sole responsibility to communicate directly with any appropriate state agencies and/or local jurisdictions regarding such implications.

Students who have earned a graduate degree which meets these requirements will be considered eligible to sit for the anatomy, pathology, kinesiology and physiology test out exam at the sole discretion of the Director of Education.

All students wishing to be considered for eligibility to take the test out exam shall arrange to have a transcript sent directly to the Program Director of the Lotus School from the educational institution from which they received their degree. In order to successfully complete the test out exam, the student must receive a grade of 65% or greater. Students who successfully test out of the anatomy, pathology, kinesiology and physiology training, meet all other applicable requirements for completion from the program and complete the program in good standing (including the payment of all required fees) will receive a certificate of completion of the program from Lotus School of Integrated Professions. However, their transcripts will reflect that they “tested out” of 200 hours of anatomy, physiology, pathology and kinesiology training, and received 400 hours of massage theory and practice from the School.

25

Commonwealth of Virginia Educational Requirements for Licensure

The Commonwealth of Virginia educational requirements for a certificate of completion are a minimum of 500 hours of training from a state certified or SCHEV (State Council of Higher Education in Virginia) certified massage school. All applicants for licensure are required by the Virginia Board of Nursing to undergo a criminal background check and to be fingerprinted. In the event that an applicant has a history of arrests/convictions for criminal violations, it is recommended that the individual check with the Board of Nursing for an opinion as the whether he or she will be accepted in light of these disclosures.

Secondly, after successful completion from a school which is an approved provider, applicants are required to successfully complete a licensing exam acceptable to the Virginia Board of Nursing.

It should be noted that requirements of other states might differ. A good reference to check for other states’ massage and bodywork requirements is www.massagemag.com - the Laws and Legislation section or the American Massage Therapy Association web site at www.amtamassage.org . It should also be noted that in the absence of a state regulation there may be local ordinances that govern the practice of massage therapy. Massage Class Meeting Times
