  2. 2. Land was born on May 7, 1909 in Bridgeport. He was an American scientist and invertor of polaroid camera. He is also the co-founder of the Polaroid Corporation. Land died on March 1, 1991 in Cambridge at the age of 81.
  3. 3. Blind by the lights In 1926, Land was a Harvard student walking along Broadway in New York City. He was overwhelmed by the glare from the headlights and store signs. He sensed a safety hazard and wondered if polarized lights could reduce that danger. He dropped out and began doing research in laboratory. He designed the first inexpensive light polarizing filters.
  4. 4. In 1943, Eastman Kodak gave Land-Wheelwirght an order for $10K dollar worth of polarizing filters. Kodak wanted a polarizer laminated between two seets of optical glass, but neither Land nor Wheelwright had any idea how to make it. Nonethless, they accepted the order and successfully created what they called Polaroid. The company changed the name too.
