The equation of the point slope form can be calculated with the formula

y – y1 = m ( x- x1)

where,

m = Slope

(x1, y1) = Coordinate points

Consider a straight line with co-ordinate points (2,10) , (5,1) and slope -3.

Point Slope Form Equation Calculation

Consider any one of the co-ordinate points. Let us take (2,10) and slope m = -3.

Substitute the values in the formula of point slope form.

y – 10 = -3 ( x – 2)

y – 10 = -3x + 6

= - y - 3x + 6 + 10

Hence the equation is – 3x – y + 16 = 0

Point Slope Form Without Slope

You can also find the equation of the straight line without slope, when two co-ordinate points (x1, y1) and (x2, y2) are given.

(y – y1) / (y2 – y1) = (x – x1) / (x2 – x1)
