SUCCESSFUL STUDENTS Our talented Kindergarten continue to shine and improve in their Literacy skills through the implementation of the L3 program. Additionally, our Kindergarten stars are making significant improvements in Mathematics especially in relation to place value and their understanding of 2 D shapes. Our Seven Steps to Writing program continues to help improve our students writing skills. In Stage 1, our students are successfully using the techniques taught such as “pebbles” and “boulders” successfully in their writing. Keep it up kids! ro Day SAFE PEOPLE - SAFE PLACESLast week one of our students felt they were being approached by a car on their way home. The student made their way home safely, but we have taken this as an opportunity to reinforce our ‘Safe People Safe Places’ mes-sages, and would appreciate it if you would consider doing the same. The messages are:• Make sure your parents or carers are aware of where you are at all times.• Walk near busier roads and streets, or use paths where there are a lot of people.• Always walk straight home or to the required destination.• Don’t talk to anyone you don’t know and never get into a car with someone you don’t know.• If a car stops on the side of the road and you don’t know the person inside, do not stop.• If you are scared and can use a phone, call Triple Zero (000) and tell them you are scared.

EXTERNAL VALIDATIONS This week I am away from school on Monday & Tuesday attending External Validation training, which is an opportunity for schools to discuss judgements about their practice – and the evidence that underpins them – with a panel of peers. Through the experience, I will learn how embedding effective self-assessment practices will ensure that our school is well positioned to identify and annotate our most significant pieces of evidence for submission to the validation panel.

PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWSWe have received overwhelmingly positive feedback regarding our parent teacher interviews. This week we are surveying all parents to see if there are any improvements or adjustments that we can make to the process to ensure that it is meeting the needs of our school community. This will also allow us to make any necessary adjust-ments for the 2019 assessment and reporting periods. Please go to the following link to provide your feedback:

CHILD PROTECTION LESSONSDuring Term 3 all classes at Point Clare Public School will be completing lessons under the PDHPE syllabus re-lating to the topic of Child Protection. Child protection is a sensitive, challenging area for school communities. Because children and young people are relatively powerless in abusive relationships, they rely on responsible adults to intervene and to assist them. The New South Wales Department of Education, as an agency respon-sible for the care and welfare of students in schools, has a charter to protect the young people in its care from sexual, physical and emotional abuse and neglect, and from improper conduct of a sexual nature. It is the role of the Department of Education to:• provide educational programs in schools in child protection• protect students in schools from abuse and neglect and to assist in the recognition of suspected child abuse and neglect• provide ongoing support to students within the normal duties of school staff.Balanced child protection education incorporates teaching and learning in three broad themes:Recognising abuse / Power in relationships / Protective strategies

A K-6 overview will be sent home this week for all stages of learning which will inform you of the topics being covered throughout Term 3.

GIRLS HOCKEY Thursday 26th July Point Clare P.S. played Copacabana P.S. in round 3 of P.S.S.A. girls hockey Knockout. Our novice hockey team played the experienced Copacabana P.S. and were beaten convincingly in goals scored. However the girls tackled, travelled, pushed and chased all over the field with enormous effort. Praise to our defensive play with special mention to Millie (goalkeeper ) who saved 90% of shots on goal. Thank you to helper Olivia who, through injury, became our team sub organiser/timer. Alsoour mums Nancy, Sam and Julie are greatly appreciated for transporting the girls to and from Wyong Water Turf and for their cheers of support and encouragement. A great thank you Point Clare girls Hockey team.
