The Pogue’s Run Waterway Committee and its partners have worked diligently in 2017 and 2018 improving the water quality through green infrastructure improvements, engaging the Near Eastside community in educational and fun activities along the waterway, and organizing multiple art installations and experiences along Pogue’s Run. Habitat Restoration and Volunteering • Planted 1.22 acres of native species

in Spades Park - Cummins in partnership with Indianapolis Department of Public Works’ Office of Land Stewardship

• Removal of 0.35 acres of invasive species at the Urban Temple GreenSpace in Cottage Home – Keep Indianapolis Beautiful (KIB)

• Removal of 0.68 acres of invasive species in Brookside Park– Cummins in partnership with KIB and Lilly

Pogue’s Run Trail • Supported resident-led Pathways

Over Pogue’s campaign raised $70,000 to design the historic Nowland Ave bridge, which must be improved to complete the trail

• Partnered with Near East Area Renewal (NEAR) to hold a bike tour with over 120 participants cycling the future trail, highlighting Pogue’s Run Art and Nature Park and the small businesses along the waterway

Pogue’s Run Art and Nature Park • Supported new sculpture by

Paramount School of Excellence students

• Held a Nature Play Day scavenger hunt in the park

• Collaborated with Otterbein neighbors and artists led by Eric Nordgulen to install 2 new art benches and restored an older one

• Worked with TeenWorks to paint beautiful new mural depicting life at the park

Education • Held a Fall Color Art and Science

Adventure with The DaVinci Pursuit • KIB Arborist taught Participants

about trees and participants learned to blend colors and paint with a local artist

• Hosted 2 Hoosier Riverwatch sampling days at Spades Park and Cottage Home neighborhood

• Held 10 Green Infrastructure Maintenance Trainings with Groundwork Indy Green Team and DuVall residents

Pogue’s Run Waterway Committee looks forward to continuing to support the completion of Pogue’s Run Trail and involving all residents along Pogue’s Run in projects that improve the waterway and the quality of life on the Near Eastside.
