What is a Podcast?
POD = Playable on Demand
A series of shows, not a one time event.
Can be only audio; can be still photos with audio; can be video -- all options are available!
Recommendations:Planning -- needs a story board, just like any project.
Students should work with something they are passionate about.
Develops skills of speaking & listening directly; writing & reading indirectly.
Develops confidence and understanding of audience.
What hardware?If you have a Macbook or iphone it is easy, because it is built in.
For a PC you need a microphone (headset will work nicely).
Camera for still photos (optional)
Video camera for video (optional)
What software?Again, for Mac it is easy: use GarageBand.
PC: download Audacity for free @ http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/
Web 2.0 solution: http://podomatic.com
Also good for hosting!
Ideas for Podcasts:Elementary -- classroom show, lab reports, reflection on assignments, monthly newsletter, audio books
Secondary -- classroom show, lab reports, reflection on assignments, monthly newsletter, audio books, documentaries exploring social issues.
Administrators -- examples from classroom instruction, monthly school reports
