Hello my name is Bethany Sims, and I have always loved horses!

My mom thought I would look very cute riding a paint horse, but I had other plans and decided a POA was for me. The search for a Poa begin and the search for a paint horse came to a sudden stop.

My first POA was a little mare named Ms. Beasley. She carried me around that summer for lead line. She now has a new job of having some future show ponies.

Then came the most wonderful teacher into my life, Drift-woods Fair Fannie. I had so much fun riding Fran at shows and at home. Riding with nothing but a hay string and halter became my favorite pass time. I had much success with Fran at the shows we attended, but I wanted to learn to do more classes like western riding, reining and jumping. Fran was not really into all these new adventures especially jumping. Fran has a new job teaching another lucky little girl.

The Poczobuts had a pony in their field that loved to jump and they thought Dusty and I would get along well. So Dusty left her old job of having babies to come back to the show world and help me learn to jump. Dusty has taught me so much more than just how to jump this year. Although I did not get Dusty until April, I think this past year was great for us. We had some great rides and some not so good rides, but with every ride I learned something.

I want to say a special thank you to Elizabeth Poczobut for helping me learn to ride Dusty and for teaching me so much this year. I would not be the rider I am today without you. Thank you Dad for always making sure I have everything I need at the shows. Thank you mom for the hard work at the shows.

I am so happy to have made so many new friends this past year. I am hoping to meet up with my “new” friends and “old” friends again this year to play Breyer horses after the show or maybe for another epic water fight!!!

Your Friend,

Bethany

Greetings! As I write this, I am trying to pack my suitcase, my briefcase, and my vehicle for the big trip to Dallas for the 2015 POAC National Con-vention! Our registration numbers look good for this event, and the com-mittee meeting agendas are impressive! Our committees work very hard to make programs and events successful for our members. Sometimes it seems that much work produces small gains, but our breed has quite a line-up of wonderful programs for 2015…You won’t want to miss a thing! If you have constructive suggestions for any of the committees, please send the committee chairperson an e-mail or contact me at the National Office so I can pass this information on to the chairman to share with the com-mittee. Once you return home from a busy week in Dallas, take time to rest

up and get ready for a busy summer and fall…For the 2015 National Congress, some new events include a

Youth Carnival on Saturday Night, complete with bounce houses, face painting, and even a dunk tank! We have added sponsorship money, and will be able to offer some great high point awards as well as beautiful new class trophies and ribbons! All of our judges and officials are contracted and ready to go.

The 2015 West World has an exciting line-up this year and ev-erything is in place to make for a wonderful weekend! This show, being held with the Rocky Mountain Regional, will offer those attending an awesome facility along with the beautiful landscape in addition to excellent completion for the West World title!

Central Classic 2015 in Winona, MN, should be one of our largest events of the year. Held in the strong POA-based Midwest Region, this week will draw a huge exhibitor base and some of the

nicest group of POAs in the country!Eastern Classic 2015 is once again in Cloverdale Indiana at the beautiful

C Bar C Arena. Attendees can enjoy the great atmosphere of this under-one-roof facility, and then take a short drive to downtown Indianapolis to enjoy the festivities of the Indianapolis 500 held the same weekend!

Finally, the POA show-year offers the International Futurity and Sale in Lake St. Louis in Missouri on September 30 – October 3rd. If you have a POA that you would like to nominate for one or more of the many futurity classes, make sure that you get your nomination in to the POAC National Office no later than March 5th to avoid late fees.

With all of these large events, sometimes it is hard to fit in the chapter or state shows and events…these are extremely important also so make sure that you support your own area…Promote your POAs whenever and wher-ever you can…Lets show everyone what a wonderful breed POA is and what we stand for! Until next time, hug your kids and your ponies…

From the Desk of the Chief executive Officer

The POA National Futurities are open to any tentative registered POA that meets the current POA show and futurity rules. Ponies participating in these futurities need not have been nominated to or participated in the Select Sire Futurity. If a Futurity class does not have full entries to place the final winners as outlined in the current POAC Handbook, the vacant prize money will be divided equally by the number of winners that placed in that class. Monies will be mailed from the National POA Office. Pony of the Americas Club Official Show Rules will apply. For complete futurity rules, please refer to the current POAC National Handbook and supplemental attachments. All nomination forms and complete fees not postmarked by the due date are tripled. Payments must be postmarked on or before the deadlines. Metered postage not accepted as proof of mailing date. All Owners, Lessees, and Handlers must be a current POAC National member to submit any National Futurity Nomination Form. Once a Futurity Nomination Form or Sustaining Payment is received to the National Office with complete or partial payment, no refunds will be issued unless the Futurity show is cancelled. Any Owner of a POA participating in the Futurity Show that sells while at the Futurity must pay a 10% commission of the selling price to the National POAC. It is the owner’s responsibility to contact the POA Futurity/Sale Office to make this payment. Current health papers and coggins test papers within 12 months are required for all futurity ponies and must be presented at check-in.

Supreme Champion: Santee Miss McCue

Santee Miss McCue 448722003 POA MareSupreme Champion July 2013

Fred and Jan Netz, MinnesotaSandy is a once-in-a-lifetime mare. We had been

showing Appaloosa Horses since 1969, qualifying every year from then to 2001. Gene Carr, the Mehl’s, the Passe’s and several others asked us to join the MN POAC, but we waited until we knew we had a sure winner.

In 2003, we went to the Des Moines sale and Jan bought Santee Miss McCue for the then High Point Selling weanling price of $5,000. We went to get a picture of her with Paul Filzen, the breeder of Sandy, utilizing Gene Carr’s leased stallion Santee Senator and AQHA mare Watch Two Eyed Bar. Two trainers, two breeders and several show people lamented that she was too small and would never win.

She now has four International titles, with Katelyn Flack winning two of them, Maddy Winklemann, under the wings of Eugene and Irene Zimmerman when Sandy was 7, getting one and Eugene getting one in her yearling year. Fred showed her to three seconds at the International Shows.

In Futurities, she was the Weanling Winner over 44 others, yearling winner, second as a two-year-old and rhid as a three-year-old. She was Reserve in the Open Yearling Class against all AQHA yearlings at the WSCA Open Show at the Hippodrome in St. Paul, MN.

She has over 4,500 halter points in POA shows and open shows. She has Grands and Reserves in Texas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Colorado, Nebraska and Minnesota. Her total Grands and Reserves counting Junior Awards including Open shows is over 400.

She won the coveted High Point Over All Mares once and was second three times. She won her age class every year for four years in a row.

She was broke out by June Shuck and campaigned by Karla Jenson one year, who did an awesome job winning and Jan Netz riding her and beating some of the best trainers in the POAC.

The Zimmerman’s, Shucks and Flacks finished her Supreme Championship in Grand Style, and we can’t thank them enough. Every age group enjoyed using and riding Sandy. Sandy was shown only once in 2014 in a class of 16 Quarter Horses at the Custer County Fair in Hermosa, SD and with a Quarter Horse judge getting third behind Santee Empress. Sandy is doing very well with cattle.

HALL FARMS QUARTER AND PAINT HORSES (2009) HALL FARMS QUARTER, PAINTS AND POAS (2015)

If someone would have told me 5 years ago we would own four POA’s I would have laughed. I had a barn full of quarter horses and paints never had a pony in my barn, and then we had new neighbors that moved in Dan and Lori Krome. Dan and Lori had POA’s, one day they stop by and asked questions about horse projects in the area that’s when they met my shy child Makayla (7) and said we have a pony that would be perfect for her and I pretty much blew it off. That fall I worked one of Lori’s ponies and showed it the futurities couldn’t believe I was riding a pony. Stayed for the futurity sale, I went to get something to eat and I answered my phone there was a lady who said you really don’t know me my name is Angie Schuck-could you bid on a pony for me coming up in few lots I was like Oh ok went running into the sale ring ended up with the pony (Prides Dynamic Look) for Schucks and met the owners of the pony Kim Olson and Katie I will never forget meeting Katie the first time she told me that Grandma buys me anything I want-I looked at Kim and she just had that look. That was the begin-ning of a great friendship with Kim and Dwight Olson and Katie.

That fall Schucks asked if Makayla would like to show the pony I had purchased for them at a POA show it sounded like a new adventure it turned out to be one of many POA shows we would attend that show was 2010 Spooktacular and what a shocker for someone that has always showed QH, Paint and open shows. Makayla had a great time with a little unruly pony that bucked her off in English not a big deal wasn’t the first time she was dumped and it was a lot closer to the ground then her 16 hand paint gelding. That winter we received a phone call from Kromes to see if we would want Makayla to ride one of their ponies for the year

and that was the beginning of POA’s in our barn. Makayla had the great opportunity to ride Chock Full of Grace (Gracie) they made a great team, we showed mainly in MN that year and was lucky enough to go to Congress in St. Louis where Makay-la had a great show becoming 2011 Congress Champion 8 and under. After being around POA’s this short time I was amazed at what a great dispositions POA’s have and how well they a handle the versatility, I knew I was in trouble, Makayla was hooked she loved all the classes and the versa-tility. We met great people that have become friends and felt so welcomed. Gracie went back to Kromes after Congress, then we borrowed another great POA from Jack Geller (Star) that was when I came to the con-clusion I needed to purchase a POA for Makayla and we purchased RC Chocolate Star (Annie) from Larry Meyers-Annie is a great all around pony, in 2012 we showed Annie and rode along with some friends to con-gress just to watch, walked up to the

arena and hunter in hand was going, I was standing next to Charlene Astin, Charlene had tried to sell me a pony the year before and I put it off, Char-lene was getting excited and she goes you know that mare I tried to sell you last year that’s her in the ring and I fell in love it just so happened she won hunter in hand, I had Makayla ride her and we ended up buying Too Blonde To Speak (Lacie). Thank you Astins for such a great pony, Makayla and Lacie have made a great team Lacie will do about anything Makayla asks of her.

In two years Makayla and Lacie have achieved many accomplish-ments including 2014 reserve Con-gress Champion and getting Lacies supreme this year we could not have done it without all people who sup-port Makayla and the guidance and wisdom of Jena Despenas. Makayla also had a great year with our year-ling C I’M A CRYSTAL STAR (CC) and we purchased a JR pony last fall another time I was not planning on buying anything thank you Jenna for telling me you thought this pony would be a good fit for us, so we pur-chased HOT CHOCOLATE LOVE (Mocha).

We have had a great five years showing POA’s and met so many wonderful people, when I am asked about POA’s people are shocked on how much we enjoy them, I find a lot of people still have the pony complex. Hopefully we have helped change some people minds and thanks to everybody for supporting and advising us.

Join us in Colorado at the West World and Rocky Mountain Regional

Boulder County Fairgrounds Longmont, Colo. June 12-15, 2015

Colorado is a great place to visit in the summer, with beautiful, cool evenings and low humidity (your pony will actually dry after you wash him).

From the fairgrounds, there’s easy access to the mountains, events in Denver and Boulder, and more. And there are plenty of great restaurants nearby.

The hotel this year is super-convenient to the fairgrounds and the campground is located at the fairgrounds can’t get much better than that! Make your reservations early. Details at www.copoac.org.

We’ll have a mini-circuit for the West World and Regional, and a saddle from SCHNEIDERS will be awarded to the Overall High Point Rider for both shows.

For information about the West World, and for the West World showbill and entry form, go to the national website at www.poac.org.

More info is also on the Colorado POA website at www.copoac.org.

The Colorado POA Club is hosting the Rocky Mountain Regional. For the Regional showbill, entry form, and info on hotels, camping,

and things to do in Colorado, visit our website at www.copoac.org or call Peggy Lough at 970-483-7491.
