Junior English Choral Speaking Team

Our school’s Junior English Choral Speaking Team won the Champion in the
Speech Festival. It’s all because the effort paid by the Team and four teachers,
Ms. Carrie Leung, Ms. Adelaide Hon, Ms. Doris Chan and Ms. Shermie Wu and an
outside coach, Ms. Emma for the three months’ training.
Why did they hire an external instructor?
Ms. Emma is an expert on drama. Our teachers have first met her in a
storytelling workshop in March last year. They thought Ms. Emma could be helpful
for the Poem Team.
Unforgettable moments
The most unforgettable moment of the team was when the judge was announcing
the winners of the competition. The Team didn’t expect that they could win the
Champion so they were very nervous and disappointed when the judge announced the
First and Second Runner-up. When the judge announced the school name ‘Po Leung
Kuk….’. The Team shouted and screamed. Of course, they were overjoyed and felt
proud of it when they got the Champion!

The Junior English Choral Speaking Team participated in the speech festival and
won the champion. They tried their best to practise before the competition. The
teachers in charge of the team are Ms. Carrie Leung, Ms. Adelaide Hon, Ms. Doris
Chan and Ms. Shermie Wu. Everybody paid much effort in this competition.
Why did the school invite an external coach?
Our school also hired Miss. Emma for teaching the students to read poems. The
school invited Ms. Emma to help because the teachers would like to get some new
ideas and insight from her. At the very beginning, our teachers worked closely with
Miss Emma to see how they could present the poem and train the team members.
Everything went smoothly as they contributed in different ways to the success of the
team.
How did the teachers and the team feel before and after they got the champion?
As the team members are very young, they sometimes could not cooperate well.
They were too active and playful. They could not always concentrate. The teachers
needed to remind the members to concentrate and be attentive. The teachers thought
that the members deserved the champion because they had tried their very best in the
competition. It was a great performance. The members felt very happy when they
got the champion. They all want to participate in the competition next year. After all,
they enjoyed the well-earned fruitful result.
