FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Congratulations
Several student leadership events
occurred in the latter part of this term.
We congratulate Taylor ‘Kelly-
Scholes, Shari Roberts and Filisha
Smith who attended the 2012
Aboriginal Education Consultative
Group Youth Forum. Eleven
members of the SRC worked with the
staff from ylead to deliver leadership
training to students from Aldavilla,
Frederickton and Kempsey West
Public Schools. Ricky ... and ..
attended the Youth Environment
Council Leadership Camp at Cascade
Environmental Centre. Finally, ten of
our senior Hospitality students helped
to serve our senior citizens at the
Seniors Week luncheon held resently
at the Kempsey Macleay RSL. Well
done to all these students who gave
so generously of their time and
represented the school so well.
Year 7 Camp
The year 7 team building camp was a
great success. Year Advisor Liz
McMahon organized the camp which
offered a range of physical and social
activities to build students’
confidence and strengthen new
friendships. Staff members, Nathan
Barker, Sandy Jackson, Jed Peisley
and Natalie Smith all put in huge
efforts to make the two day Coffs
Harbour event the great success that
it was. Well done everyone.
International Women’s
Day
Congratulations to KHS Captain
Kinnie Ring and fellow year 12
student Olivia Willis who have
played parts in this year’s celebration
of International Women’s Day.
Kinnie spoke to a gathering of
women as part of a Women In
Educational Leadership (WIEL)
event. She had previously attended
the 2011 WIEL state conference.
Olivia’s winning Waste Into Art
work was depicted on the entry form
and cover of the art exhibition held to
commemorate the 101st. anniversary
of International Women’s Day in
early March 2012.
Parent Focus Groups
In 2011 the School Council sought
the views of parents for the 2012
School Plan through a discussion
group process. Members of that focus
group have continued to meet to
provide input into the school
planning process. Parents are
welcome to join a focus group to give
parents’ points of view into school
programs. Any parent who would like
to be involved is asked to contact Mrs
Louise Ryan who assists with the
organization of these meetings.
Future meetings are planned for
Willawarrin, Millbank and Bellbrook
and advice will be mailed to parents
of Kempsey High students and future
students soon.
State Swimming
Bianca Roberts and Jake Davison
represented Kempsey High and North
Coast Region at the NSW CHS State
Swimming Carnival that was held at
the State Swimming Centre in
Sydney last week. Jake was Lower
North Coast Zone Age Champion (12
years) and both Bianca and Jake
recorded great times. Well done
Bianca and Jake.

Hydrated and Healthy
A generous sponsor of the School has
donated a ‘filtered water’ bubbler/tap
station to our school. A straw-poll of
our student body reveals a high
propotion of students do not drink
Kempsey tap water. Many thanks to
Ross Davies from Bunnings
Kempsey for the copper pipe,
Osborne and Dowling for the
donation of the trench digger, Ben
Paix for the valuable plumbing skills
and a million thanks to the welding
class at the Kempsey Tafe.
So please encourage our students to
bring a (BPA Free) plastic water
bottle to
school so
they can refil
during the day
and stay
hydrated and
healthy.
Opens Rugby League
For the first time this year the
Country Rugby League has created a
Macleay Valley division for the
Country Cup, so we could play at
Verge St instead of having to travel to
Coffs Harbour or Port Macquarie. We
played two pool games and a play
off.
The first against St Pauls resulted in a
two tries but ultimately a loss. We
showed enthusiasm in the ruck and
tackle but communicated poorly and
did not create enough pressure to win.
The second game was against the
eventual winners – Macksville. They
played some excellent football to beat
us, with wonderful support play
keeping the ball alive despite
determined quality tackling from
Kempsey. Their football showed the
benefit of playing and training
together consistently over time.
In the final consolation match,
Macleay Vocational College had
suffered some injuries and we agreed
on an eleven-a-side match. The
eventual score was five tries to two.
The day was well organised and run
by the CRL. There was some
excellent Rugby league played and
players really enjoyed the
camaraderie, the games and the day.
Year 7 Camp
This term Year 7 went on a team
building camp for 2 days at the
Coffs Harbour Beach School.
The students were taught team
building and social networking
skills though a variety of
activities. This was done by
splitting the students into 3
groups, providing the chance for
them to meet their fellow
students and put names to faces.
Various games and activities took
place including, ping pong, pool table
games, air hockey, basketball, beach
and night games. High ropes was a
popular activity where the students
were required to scale up a 30 metre
tower of rope helping and
encouraging their fellow group
members. Also Zorb Ball was well-
liked, (It involved a huge plastic ball
that holds a person inside).
A special thanks to the teachers and
mentor students from the school’s
SRC who participated in all the
events
.
Maths News
Recently, four students from the
Extension 1 Mathematics course
attended the Year 11 and 12 North
Coast study day. Jack, Yi Bei, Zac
and Zubair enjoyed this great
opportunity and put their skills to the
test against a much larger group of
students from schools as far south as
Bulahdelah. The boys also
participated in lectures to improve
their knowledge and understanding of
various topics such as parametric
equations, circle geometry,
integration and differentiation.
On another note...Why not try this
math puzzle.
Applying for disability provisions for Higher School Certificate examinations.
Parents of students attempting this year’s HSC are advised that they may apply
for disability provisions. Parents are asked to contact Mrs Secomb or the School
Counsellors Mrs Hauville or Mrs Curtis, An application will be made by the
school to the Board of Studies and evidence of the student's disability will be
supplied.
SRC News
Students from the School’s SRC have
been extremely busy in the last
couple of weeks. Students with Mrs
Sneddon went to the State SRC
conference, where they took part in
leadership skill development
workshops, team building activities,
motivational presentations and a BIG
IDEA session where they proposed
their one BIG IDEA about how to
enhance student life.
Riley ... and Aesha Awan made a
presentation to the Kempsey Council
as part of YAC (Youth Advisory
Council), where they discussed
Youth Week, Keep Safe programs,
the Aprilla Youth Concert, scary
movie nights and youth drug issues.
The mayor and councillors where
very pleased with the presentation
and were happy to have the support
of the YAC.
The SRC has been fundraising for the
Ronald McDonald House. They held
an out of uniform day at the school to
help drum up support. One hundred
and forty four dollars was donated to
the cause. Thank you to all those
students who contributed.
SRC students were also involved in
YLead at Frederickton Public School.
SRC leaders participated in this
leadership training and mentoring
program for year 6 students from
local primary schools.
Kinnie Ring was invited to speak at
the Women in Education Leadership
(WIEL) conference held at Coffs
Harbour where she spoke about
women in leadership embracing
young women. Kinnie with 60 other
women from the Mid-North Coast
took part in the conference with the
aim to foster and nurture leadership
skills amongst women leaders and
women aspiring to leadership in a
supportive and collaborative
environment.
Several SRC students were mentors
at the year 7 camp. There they
participated in all the games,
challenges and activities with the
Year 7 students. This was a great
positive opportunity for both the Year
7’s and the mentor students. Special
thanks to Sam, Sarah, Crystal, Tykea
and Nick.
State Softball Champion

Year 12 students recently
visited Melville High who
hosted the Regional
University Roadshow. The
event brings together
representatives from the
University of New England,
Charles Sturt University and
Southern Cross University to
talk with HSC students.
This presentation provided students
an insight into the university
application processes, university
costs, life as a university student and
course information.
Approximately 120 students from
Kempsey High, Melville High and St.
Pauls College attended the Roadshow
Presentation.
