P.O. Box 127, Viroqua, WI 54665 July 2016 Viroqua & Liberty Pole United Methodist Churches THE CROSS & THE FLAME Dear Friends, Summer is in full swing and the 4 th of July is almost here! Many youth have been attending summer school and/or summer recreation for a few weeks. The crops that blanket the hillsides are growing, growing and growing. New calves are being born. People are out biking, walking, roller skating, boating, fishing, planting gardens and doing all kinds of landscaping, to name a few activities. Summer time takes on its own personality and scheduling. After a long winter and spring, people in the Midwest seem to go bananas trying to cram as many activities as they can in the summer months due to the nicer weather; or so it appears. In all of our busyness, please take time out to be in God’s Word and in prayer. John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, had some great sayings that could be applied to each of our lives. The following are just a few: 1.) “Do all the good you can. By all the means you can. In all the ways you can. In all the places you can. At all the times you can. To all the people you can. As long as ever you can.” 2.) “Unless God has raised you up for this very thing, you will be worn out by the opposition of men and devils. But if God be for you, who can be against you? Are all of them together stronger than God? Oh be not weary of well doing!” 3.) “What one generation tolerates, the next generation will embrace.” 4.) “We should be rigorous in judging ourselves and gracious in judging others.” 5.) “Do you not know that God entrusted you with that money (all above what buys necessities for your families) to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to help the stranger, the widow, the fatherless; and, indeed, as far as it will go, to relieve the wants of all mankind? How can you, how dare you, defraud the Lord, by applying it to any other purpose?” 6.) “God grant that I may never live to be useless!” 7.) “In using all means, seek God alone. In and through every outward thing, look only to the power of His Spirit, and the merits of His Son. Beware you do not get stuck in the work itself; if you do, it is all lost labor. Nothing short of God can satisfy your soul. Therefore, fix on Him in all, through all, and above all...Remember also to use all means as means-as ordained, not for their own sake...” May you have a happy and safe 4 th of July, stay in God’s Word and keep praying… Sincerely, Pastor Jean

THE CROSS & THE FLAME

Dear Friends,

Summer is in full swing and the 4th of July is almost here! Many youth have been

attending summer school and/or summer recreation for a few weeks. The following are just a few:

1.) “Do all the good you can. 5.) “Do you not know that God entrusted you with that money (all above what buys necessities for your families) to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to help the stranger, the widow, the fatherless; and, indeed, as far as it will go, to relieve the wants of all mankind? How can you, how dare you, defraud the Lord, by applying it to any other purpose?”

6.) “God grant that I may never live to be useless!”

7.) “In using all means, seek God alone. In and through every outward thing, look only to the power of His Spirit, and the merits of His Son. Relay for Life

A Big THANK YOU to both churches that gave and participated in the 2016 Relay For Life. Our total was $1,980.00. There were 5 Team Members, but we had around 10 walkers. Thank you to those that came for the program and walked the track for a good cause. This year’s event just got started with a few walks around the track and then the storms came. With the strong winds, lightning and rain the event had to be stopped early. The Viroqua Relay for Life had 17 Teams and raised $29,797.92 for cancer research.

GROW IN SPIRIT

Think of the soul as part of God’s garden. He plants us to grow in spirit and

to thrive with faith. We begin in fertile soil, but we cannot develop without

nourishment. We must keep the garden watered daily with prayer and fed

weekly with worship, and remove the weeds of doubt and fear so that the

soul can flourish. Worship this week and every week...root your life in God.

THE CROSS & THE FLAME

Dear Friends,

Summer is in full swing and the 4th of July is almost here! Many youth have been

attending summer school and/or summer recreation for a few weeks. The following are just a few:

1.) “Do all the good you can. Oh be not weary of well doing!” 3.) “What one generation tolerates, the next generation will embrace.” 4.) “We should be rigorous in judging ourselves and gracious in judging others.”

Beware you do not get stuck in the work itself; if you do, it is all lost labor. Nothing short of God can satisfy your soul. Therefore, fix on Him in all, through all, and above all...Remember also to use all means as means-as ordained, not for their own sake...” May you have a happy and safe 4

th of July, stay in God’s Word and keep praying…

Sincerely, Pastor Jean
