National ST&I Program of Valuation of Biodiversity
GENERAL OBJECTIVE
To generate scientific knowledge and to develop technologies and innovations in order to add value to biodiversity in a sustainable way, for the benefit of society as a whole.
(III) PROPOSAL OF ACTION LINES OF RD&I *
* Complementary to the action lines of the National ST&I Programs on Biotechnology and Environmental Sciences, to avoid duplicity.
National ST&I Program of Valuation of Biodiversity
COMPONENT 1:
KNOWLEDGE GENERATION FOR THE CONSERVATION AND SUSTAINABLE USE OF BIODIVERSITY
Action Lines 1. Characterization of ecosystems (including identification of new ecosystems) and processes of diversification of biota in the country. .
2. Determining the resilience of ecosystems to different impacts (natural and anthropogenic).
3. Characterization and conservation of promising biodiversity.
4. Design and implementation of dynamic models to assess and preserve ecosystems, and to assess the services they provide.
5. Molecular, biological and chemical characterization of species for economic valuation and access to market.
National ST&I Program of Valuation of Biodiversity
COMPONENT 2:
INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER FOR ADDING VALUE TO BIODIVERSITY
Action Lines 1. Studies on the innovative potential in the value chains of biodiversity, taking into account foresight and technology surveillance tools.
2. Development of products (goods and services) and innovative processes from biodiversity taking into account: a) the terms of access to genetic resources and b) sharing of benefits.
3. Technology transfer and adaptation for management, cultivation and breeding of biodiversity species, with emphasis on agro-biodiversity.
National ST&I Program of Valuation of Biodiversity
COMPONENT 3:
INSTITUTIONALITY AND STRENGHTENING CAPACITIES
Action Lines 1. Promotion of linkage mechanisms between Government, Academia and Enterprise for the development of national RD&I in biodiversity.
2. Formation and promotion of excellency researchers and innovators for different areas of biodiversity.
3. Dissemination of the appropriate use of intellectual property mechanisms in RD&I on biodiversity resources.
National ST&I Program of Valuation of Biodiversity
VIRTUAL CONSULTATION OF THE ACTON LINES (Jul-Aug 2014) ELABORATION OF THE FINAL DOCUMENT (Aug 2014) APPROVAL OF THE PROGRAM (Sept 2014)
(IV) NEXT STEPS ON THE PROGRAM OF VALUATION OF BIODIVERSITY
NATIONAL ST&I PROGRAM ON BIOTECHNOLOGY
COMPONENT 2: Biotechnology for the Valuation of Biodiversity
Action Lines 1. Study of the genomes of biodiversity species (quinoa, amaranth, alpaca, vicuna and native fish)
2. Biochemical, molecular and genomic characterization of biodiversity species with potential importance in health, agriculture, mining, and the environment.
3. Identification of biodiversity resources by the DNA barcode technique.
4. Genetic improvement of agro-biodiversity species for industry and export
5. Development of bioprocesses
NATIONAL ST&I PROGRAM ON ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES
COMPONENT 1: Climate change, environmental risks, conservation and sustainable use of natural resources and
biodiversity
Action Lines 4. Vulnerability and adaptation to climate change
6. Assessment and monitoring for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity
