Program History

PMP Study Group formed by several Intel PMPs in 2000 with objective to support other Intel PMs in obtaining their PMP certification.

Create a learning community in a supportive environment.

Each subject’s presentation was created by a member of the PMP team. Updated after PMBOK 3rd edition.

One of the instructor team members acted as administrator.

2003 first year for program to be supported by IU.

Program Structure - Series

10 Week series, 2 hours/week– Introduction session plus 9 PMBOK knowledge areas– Each presentation has its own course code

• Participants enroll in each course using IU reg tool– Introduction session is a strongly recommended for the

remaining 9 sessions– PMBOK sessions are in order of PMBOK chapters – except

2 of 10-Integration: We decided to move Integration to the end because it encompasses / reviews all of the other sections of the PMBOK.

Instructor Delivery Tips and Techniques

General Skills         Become comfortable with public speaking; take classes; join Toast Masters.         Practice vocal variety.  It helps to have a voice to which attendees enjoy listening. Learn

to do this by attending classes and/or joining a club (again, like Toast Masters).         Practice.  Do a dry run of the complete presentation, using all the technologies required.

Facilitation Skills         Attend other virtual classes to observe other skilled facilitators. Take notes.         Check in with your students frequently to make sure they are with you: Can they see

your current slide? Check for understanding.         If the pace feels sluggish, ask.         If everything feels on target, ask as well!         Recognize your participants.          Be culturally aware and know how to include participants of diverse cultures.

(GlobeSmart)

Technology Skills         Know your technology well. Learn all the application's features to become completely

comfortable with the application(s).         Have an emergency plan in case technology fails.
