This announces the sales release of the SINAMICS PM240-2 power modules (Frames D and E; Frame F is to be released shortly), the second generation of the PM240 family of drives in the SINAMICS G120 product line.
Brief description of the product and the highlights
The PM240-2 FSD and FSE replace the previous power modules (3-phase 480V AC) PM240 FSD and FSE. They also extend the application area of the SINAMICS G120 to 240V line systems (3-phase 240V AC) and 500–690V line systems. All frames sizes (A-E) of the new PM240-2 power modules offer high power density, smaller size and do not require any derating. For example, the FSD is 25% narrower than the current FSD and covers a higher power range, (was 30 kW (40 hp) now 37 kW (50 hp) Low Overload (LO). Like the FSA-C, the removable terminals also simplify commissioning and maintenance.
Product strategy
An important goal is to merge the PM240 and PM340 to create a common power module platform for both SINAMICS G and SINAMICS S. These power modules can be used as with firmware V4.7 SP3 for the G120 control units and with upcoming firmware V4.8 for the S120 control units. Today’s PM340 will still be available for some time.
Marketing and promotional measures
The new PM240-2 power modules will be included in all marketing activities for the SINAMICS G120. Existing documentation (brochures, Internet, Intranet, PowerPoint presentations, SINAMICS Selector app, etc.) will be updated.

Compatibility
Below is the list of firmware required for proper PM240-2 operation:
The following options are now available with this release:
n Braking resistors for 240V / 480V units
n 690V resistors are being prepared for release soon
The following options are no longer required for the PM240-2 FSD and FSE:
n Input AC line reactor / choke (DC choke is built-in)
n Output AC line reactor / choke (max. cable lengths have been dramatically increased)
Frame size
The frame size and ratings are the key highlight of the new PM240-2 power modules. The diagram below shows the comparison to previous PM240 power modules. To provide for smaller control panels, the width has been optimized in conjunction with the ability to mount them side-by-side with no derating. Further, operation without line-side or load-side reactors (chokes) saves significant space in the panel.

Options
Optional components, which are common with other SINAMICS family products, such as line and load reactors, braking resistors and sinewave filters, can be used with the SINAMICS G120 PM240-2 Power Modules. See selection charts / catalogs / SIZER for more information.
The following are the push-through mounting frames which mount on the outside of the cabinet and provide an IP55 protection rating to the drive inside. One mounting frame is required per drive and must be ordered separately.
