Google developed a new AI model to help detect diabetic retinopathy

Genetically Modified plant that cleans indoor air

16 Dec 2018: Google developed an Artificial Intelligence (AI) model that can detect diabetic retinopathy with a level of accuracy on par with human retinal specialists. Verily, an Alphabet-owned company is working on rolling out the diabetic retinopathy initiative in clinics in India.

23 Dec 2018: Researchers have Genetically Modified (GM) a common indoor plant, golden pothos or Devil's ivy (Epipremnum Aureum), to remove pollutants inside the house. It has been modified to produce a liver enzyme called cytochrome p450 2e1, which is taken from rabbits, that breaks down a wide range of pollutants. The researchers put the modified plant and normal pothos ivy in glass tubes and added either benzene or chloroform gas into each tube. They found that the concentration of either gas did not change for normal plants. However, for the modified plants, the concentration of chloroform dropped by 82%, and it was almost undetectable by day six.

21 Nov 2018: The Environment Ministry approved a project led by scientists at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur to induce artificial rain via cloud seeding in Delhi. The objective is to clear smog in Delhi. The success of the project depends on the presence of a minimum quantity of rain-bearing clouds over Delhi. In the project, an aircraft has been planned to fly into the clouds and inject silver

iodide, which will lead to the formation of ice crystals that will make the clouds denser, cause them to condense into rain and settle atmospheric dust enough to clear the sky. Researchers at IIT-Kanpur will use an aircraft of the National Remote Sensing Agency, an ISRO-affiliated body for the exercise.

The workshops were highly lauded in terms of their contents and conduction and were highly successful in terms of their actualization of objectives. Every workshop concluded with proud and humbling moments of 'Thank You' notes from the teachers.

These are the efforts to aid the teachers to purposeful learning. With this as keynote, PM Publishers organized and conducted three workshops, at Kaithal, on November 27, 2018, Rudrapur, on December 8, 2018 and Panchkula, on December 29, 2018.Around 150 teachers from 80 different schools attended the three sessions at three different cities. The resource persons of the workshops Mr. Davinder Singh Minhas and Mr. Alok Srivastava enlightened and enthralled the audience with their insightful conduction. The workshops were based on Emerging Technologies in the field of Education. Teachers were greatly benefited with the discussion of Linux- an open source operating system, Cloud Computing-an environment that provided resources and services accessed via internet and Python-the language recently included by CBSE at the school level. The 'Train the Trainer' session gave the teachers important takeaways for class management.

Our workshops are meant to spread this essence of teaching and learning.
