If there is one thing Plymouth is not short of, it’s history. Taking a walk down the historic cobbled streets of The Barbican and Sutton Harbour you may think you have stepped back in time.
As a city steeped in maritime history there are lots of places where you can learn more about Plymouth’s heritage, from museums to historic houses where you can discover the city’s ancient and more recent past. The Mayfl ower Museum explores the exciting past of Sutton Harbour including the voyage of Pilgrim Fathers
aboard the Mayfl ower which set sail from Plymouth to America in 1620.
The City Museum’s collections are showcased in a range of galleries and include impressive paintings, ceramics, archaeology, natural history and Egyptian artefacts. High quality exhibitions are also staged here throughout the year, as well as at the nearby Peninsula Arts, College of Art and Plymouth Arts Centre – offering you a chance to see work by established as well as emerging artists.M
