Technical Presentation Qualification Test

Very tricky arithmetic! Note: This must be done in your head only.Do NOT use paper and pencil or a calculator. Try it.

Take 1000 and add 40 to it. Now add another 1000 . Now add 30.Add another 1000. Now add 20. Now add another 1000Now add 10 What is the total?

Did you get 5000?

Building a “Green” WorldTakes Everyone Working as a Team

…and seems to be the focus of every city

Page 10: Plumbing Codes

Park Environmental Equipment

Household wastes drain directly into

Sanitary Sewer with no additional

treatment.

Public Awareness is the onlySolution!

Page 11: Plumbing Codes

But,

Commercial Buildings

Must collect and treat fats, oils, grease (FOG) solids and chemicals before they leave the

owner’s property.

Why do all major cities have a “FOG” program?

Page 12: Plumbing Codes

Who is paying for the program?

Grit/Oil Interceptor

If no Grit/Oil Interceptor is installed, Power Washers must vacuum up & transport all water dispensed.

Decontamination shall be performed in geographical areas that will minimize the exposure of uncontaminated employees or equipment to contaminated employees or equipment.

Includes all operations involving hazardous waste that are conducted at treatment, storage, disposal (TSD)

Basics of All Sanitary Sewer Interceptor Design

We know for commercial design:

It shall be UNLAWFUL for any industrial user to discharge into the public sewer:

Two Most Important!

1. Free or emulsified oil & grease over an average of 100-400 (mg/l)

2. Acids or Alkalis which attack or corrode sewers or sewage disposal structures or have a pH value lower than 5.0 or higher than 11.0

Page 51: Plumbing Codes

Acid Neutralizing Devices

IPC, UPC 2006, 09, 2012 have updated straight forward language on Acid Neutralization

So, what’s the confusion?

Page 66: Plumbing Codes

1. Grease Trap2. Mechanical Trap3. Grease Interceptors4. Automatic Grease Removal Device (GRDs)5. Gravity Grease Interceptors6. Hydromechanical Grease Interceptors7. New! FOG Interceptors

A Confusing Mess!

Confusion over Names of Grease Traps

Grease Interceptors Names IPC & UPC since 2000

Page 67: Plumbing Codes

IPC 2006 and 20091. Grease Interceptors

2012 IPC finally changes these to “Hydromechanical”

2. Automatic Grease Removal Device(there is no name for the most popular “outdoor” Grease Interceptor)

UPC 2006 and 2009

1. Hydromechanical Grease Interceptors2. Gravity Grease Interceptors

IPC 20151. FOG (Fats, Oils, and Greases) System

The confusion is IPC can’t settle on name for grease interceptors IPC/UPC 2000 & 2003 called them Grease Traps tested to PDI-101

Page 68: Plumbing Codes

What happen to the ole Concrete Grease Trap by

???

“They picked everyone but us?”

IPC 2006 & 2009

Page 69: Plumbing Codes

Cities have to amend the Codes

The “Fallout” when this happens…

Page 70: Plumbing Codes

Hydromechanical IPC-Grease Interceptors

The mechanical grease trap is often installed in a kitchen area by the sink (but should be designed away from any food handling)

Key! Flow control devices (orifices)

Serviced by the kitchen employees rather than professionals

Manufactures recommend daily cleaning due to the small size
